Just out... IBM Mandating COVID vaccine for all US employees

Email from the CEO:

  1. S. IBMers,

It has now been more than 18 months since the onset of COVID-19. While the pandemic continues to evolve around the world, the health and safety of our employees, clients and partners remains our top priority.

President Biden recently issued an executive order mandating COVID-19 vaccines for federal contractors. As a federal contractor, it is a business imperative for IBM to comply with this mandate. In light of this requirement, the policies of many of our clients and partners, and the easy access to vaccines around the country, we will now require all IBM U.S. employees to be fully vaccinated by December 8, 2021, in order to work at IBM.

This policy applies to all U.S. IBMers, regardless of where you work (at an IBM or client site) and how often you come into an IBM or client office. This includes employees who had been given a temporary exemption at eight Research and Systems sites deemed business critical. At this time, testing for COVID-19 will not be allowed in lieu of vaccination.

If you have not yet been vaccinated or received the second dose of a two-shot vaccine, you should get fully vaccinated now so you comply. If you need to request an accommodation based on medical or religious reasons, you are strongly encouraged to do so by November 8, 2021. Requests submitted after this date may not be reviewed by December 8, 2021, and could result in you being placed on an unpaid leave of absence and/or losing IBM badge access until it’s been resolved.

Complete entire vaccination validation process now
More than 20,000 of you have now started the required vaccination validation process we shared last month. Complete the process now to verify your vaccination status and comply with the new requirement.

Review updated FAQs
A set of updated FAQs are available with additional details about our U.S. process and deadlines. If you need help with the validation process, please use the #return-to-workplace-tools Slack channel.

As I have said on multiple occasions, we follow the science when it comes to the pandemic. While the best vaccines are highly effective at preventing hospitalization and death, it takes a coordinated campaign to stop a pandemic.

Thank you for continuing to support each other, our clients and our business. I am very proud of the work IBMers have done during the global health crisis.

Arvind Krishna
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, IBM

“Stolen” elections, anti-vaxx, folks who refuse a vaccine then die in an ICU bed refusing to believe that covid exists. This site has every kind of mo--n clown nowadays. Watch the downvotes accumulate.

Fully Vaccinated here with the Pfizer 2 shot wonder (if I get blood clots in 5,10 years- lawsuits are incoming for Big Pharma from my side- that I guarantee it!)

Nonetheless I will still defend the rights of people who do not want to get the vaccine!

My logic is simple - I should not demand you to take the vaccine just for mine to work!
It's like saying that I need you to take cough syrup just for my cough to stop!

Common Sense is least Common nowadays.

@2wuz -- Agreed: Elections have consequences. But even more so: stolen elections have catastrophic consequences, as all Americans are now witnessing.

Yeah, because Muslims and Jewish people NOT eating pork contributes to a global healthcare crisis. Surely, all the non pork eaters have ki---d 700,000 these past 18 months. Yep, good one there. I can see how that is a good analogy to a vaccines that will help us out of this pandemic. Clearly, not everyone at IBM can achieve Think 40. Heck, Think 1 Second seems to be a challenge.

Yes I think we are at a definitive moment. Either get the vacine or accept the results of not. Like Obama said, "elections have consequences". So deal with it.

You really need to read the article that you posted... Most of the companies listed are requiring employees going to offices to be vaccinated. IBM is requiring ALL of his US employees to be vaccinated. Including those that never set foot in an IBM office or client offices. That is a big difference!

So, we have yet to see US companies (aside a very few) mandating ALL their employees to be vaccinated or get fired.

Try keeping up with the news, bro!
https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/here-are-companies-mandating-vaccines-all-or-some-employees-n1275808

The list in the above story is not even the latest. Many more companies like IBM have announced vaccine mandates since then.

So far no rush from any other companies to announce mandatory vaccination or loose your job…. I think it makes sense since only IBM is trying to find ‘creative’ ways to get rid of more employees… and without having to pay severance.

Someone else mentioned we should try again to form a union… what we should really do in a significant number is to coordinate a mass resignation.

We should've Unionized ... when we had the opportunity to a few years ago, when the Communications Workers of America (CWA) was willing to help us Organize.

Maybe we can invite CWA back to assist us in forming a collective bargaining agreement.

If those who don't want to be vaccinated ,just leave. However any other company out there will be mandatory as well . Perquisite will be vaccinated before even accepting interview process.

It's hilarious how people have been blaming IBM management for being stupid.

And it turns out that all along, it's the employees that are id--ts.

It really is true that all the smart people left long ago.

Just get the damn vaccine, like millions of other people have completely safely done. Stop endangering your colleagues and their families.

So this is what America has come to: denial of reality, denial of scientific evidence and the widespread rejection of common sense.

This virus is real and it ki--s people. 700+ dead from it in the US alone. But no, far too many accept the half truths and outright lies propagated by self-interested politicians, corrupt media personalities (I’d bet you that those Fox pundits are actually vaccinated) and conspiracy theory proponents.

Wake up, shut up, use your head and get vaccinated. If not for yourself, then for those around you.

And if you’re not vaccinated, I don’t want you near me.

@xqj+1dcx9MBR wondered: "IBM is using this requirement to avoid paying their portion to your 401k. by setting the deadline to 12/8, you have to be employed on 12/15 to get IBM 401k. Interesting don’t you think?"

No, it is not that interesting. Dec 8 is the deadline to get the vax - not the last working day for the unvaxxed. Assuming you are not vaxxed by Dec 8, IBM will start firing proceedings against you on Dec 9 at the earliest. At the very least, they will give you the customary 2-week notice making your last working day fall after Dec 15. If IBM really wanted to make Dec 8 your last date, they would have set the vax deadline much earlier.

Texas does not restrict IBM from mandating the vaxx. The order that Abbott gave would only force IBM to not ask you for your vaccine status to enter their buildings.

Game's over, freedom lovers! IBM has laid down the law. Call it tyranny, politics or whatever but all you can do is whine because you ain't man enough to actually quit your own job. Face it... you need the IBM job more than the IBM job needs you. Therefore, it is time to be a good, little sheep and get that Frankenstein fluid injected into your body.

Sure, you could develop an auto-immune disorder in 10 years or end up suffering from blood clots, Myocarditis or infertility but look on the bright side: You get to keep you fun IBM job and you get to enjoy the much improved reception on your 5G phone due to all those vaccine nano-particles circulating in your body. It's a win-win!

Post from TheLayoff.com

When I read that document, what I see is that a private entity can't require the vaccine status of their customers if they receive state money. I don't see that protecting me as an IBMer

My thoughts exactly... When I told my wife IBM was mandating vaccine, she
quickly mentioned that at her work, the only people that do not want to
get vaccinated are the African-Americans... LOL!!

IBM is now about "dis"-respect for the individual.

First they rob the pension plan, with help from Bush Jr, while they outsource most jobs.

Now they force us to take something which has a real risk of causing infertility among women, according to :
https://doctors4covidethics.org/the-pfizer-mrna-vaccine-pharmacokinetics-and-toxicity/

Nothing to see here of course. Time to stand together against tyranny.

Good job, IBM. Leading for a change. If you don't want to get vaxxed, there's plenty of fast food jobs open in TX, from what I hear. Nobody wants to work anymore, you can be the change to that. IBM's workplace crew gets smarter and more folks in TX can get Covid eating in a burger jo--t. Great solution.

If you live Texas, you don't have to comply. IBM is private entity that receives public funds through contracts. Point 3, the Texas EO-GA-39.
