Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

ULP is on tap first, Latest Bargaining Update, an excerpt;

To put this in perspective, the company gave a 122% bonus and more than 2% raises for the majority of managers who were in compliance, from last year’s results, 16.8 BILLION in free cash flow. Execs and the c-suite received much more up to the 27 million the CEO John Stankey gets a year. Former CEO Randall Stephenson receives $275k a month plus perks and 1 million a year consulting back while in “retirement”. The following update is about the company bargaining in bad faith, it’s insulting on many levels and a reason to STRIKE! We want a fair contract!

“AT&T Bargaining Bulletin #13

April 4, 2024

2% Raise. That’s what you are worth to AT&T. 2%.

In case there was any question as to whether the union saw fit to inform the company about the following financial matters in question, rest assured …. We have many times…backed by factual numbers:

Massive Inflation over the last 4 years
Huge Cost of living increases in CA and NV
Cost of Housing in CA and NV

Risking lives while working during the Pandemic; loss of life of members due to COVID at work. Working during the pandemic while managers relaxed in the safety of their homes.
The Raise amounts that UPS or Auto workers received.
Minimum wage increases not keeping up with wages.
Our Healthcare costs eat all wage increases we have received.
We reminded the company that they profited 16 billion last year.
THEY. DON’T. CARE.

They don’t care about you. They don’t care about your family. You are just a UUID and an expense to the company. They believe that you should be grateful to work here. This is not an isolated incident but rather a pattern of behavior we have witnessed for over a decade.

When the Union told the company that the members could not afford gigantic proposed medical deductibles, they responded by saying:

“They can get a 401k loan to pay for their medical bills “

After months of bargaining, the company flat-out refuses to provide a single item that is beneficial to you. They insist on the Union only accepting items that benefit the company. If we want to gain any minor item to improve your work or personal life they demand an unfair trade where they need to come out on top. They will not simply agree to a single proposal that would be beneficial to YOU. “

@2xgo+1rTArpdU I may be mistaken, but that typically only works if both sides agree to it. Otherwise, you are working without a contract, no?

Sign a temporary work contract

We don't need to sign a temporary work contract. We'll go by the expired contract as negotiations continue.

When you make 27 million plus a year and have Carte Blanche spending the company’s money. You get to go to all the Big events, of course it’s paid for with the careers of lifelong employees who have been laid off by over a 100 thousand and counting. But hey, everything is good in the country club c-suite, BOD and market fund bubble.

Spend on Mr. Baldy, pajama bottoms. enjoy your time, karma is coming one day for you and your execs.

Is Stankey going to Augusta National for the Masters Golf Tourney in his private jet? He is a member and at&t is a sponsor.

Continue to contact your Local and express your vote and suggestions, we folded too early last time when they finally offered terms, right before D3 contract expired. Time to get our fair share, let’s walk with D3 after the ULP strike. Tomorrow, the contract is expired so, the Bargaining Team needs to walk away and start using media to voice our issues and concerns, engage the President’s staff and other allies. The company has forced an impasse which, according to the NLRA is an unfair labor practice.

The last couple of years labor in many industries has walked to get a fair contract and claw back some of the increasing inequality between labor and upper management’s greed.

Bargained severance is a deterrent, not many get it because the company doesn’t want to swallow that poison pill. It slows down issues like ageism like, what is happening to managers now.

“ Enjoy the “long weekend” strike!”

That’s about all the guts the union has, then you’ll be crawling back working under the old contract with no leverage begging for improved contract items…..typical union slugs

Don’t worry, it’s all related to layoffs, after the company finally comes to their senses and settles there will be more management layoffs. Just like what happened at Auto and UPS. The CP gives a reprieve for those selected to work, they don’t care if you get hurt. Going to lay you off or give you an ultimatum to relocate.

They are out of their minds if they think we are going to accept massive increases in healthcare premiums, deductibles and out of pocket expenses and barely matching any retirement funds but every other year. Our standard of living has been going backwards for years now.

He-l yes, let’s strike now!

I see a silver lining in the company forcing a strike. I and many others will have time to find employment somewhere else, take my 25 years of experience and move on. Already am eligible for the pension so only positives, to move on. I still have a lot of years to work but let them backfill with an inexperienced younger tech. Most of the techs I know have some kind of technical or undergraduate degree so it won’t be hard finding another job with low unemployment numbers right now. Our skills are transferable to other trades and in high demand.

Not many of the younger generations want to do the physical and mental work along with all the hours, weekends and forced OT like my (GenX) and the older Boomer generation does. Leadership is going to find it out too late but why should I be surprised, they are always skating to the puck with their Havard and Stanford MBA, bubble snobbery.

It’s bad that the management CP has been put in this position by HR and leadership. I know who will be to blame if an outage occurs, while we are forced to work during bargained’s strike. Damages also, won’t get repaired or fixed as quickly as the experienced workers that we will be filling in for, su-ks to be us, just like the CP training we received, not good.

I hope you all get what you are asking for, within reason. It’s time someone holds leadership accountable for something, it has to stop. We should all be one, striving for the same goals and enjoy success together, not this created environment of toxicity and chaos. Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall…

Copied this post from another thread, it’s definitely germane to this thread.

“ Tick Tock! The Bell is about to toll. Nice try again company trolls, since the company decided to not to bargain in good faith, the ball is in our sandbox now. Contract ends Saturday night. Good luck CP, I believe you are about to earn your pay, this time.

The thing about leverage is, we can and will walk out at anytime, at our choosing and return at our choosing too. First up will be ULP then after that little taste of stoppage, if no significant movement by the company, it will be a full-on work stoppage.

The media, President’s Biden & Trump, govt. agencies, customers, etc.. will become involved. All the things that have been hidden will come to light, the massive exec wages and compensation packages, reductions in benefits, selling of pensions to insurance company, all the bad business decisions, offshoring, laying off the talent which will cause more outages and age discrimination has been happening at the phone factory. You may even hear some past town hall remarks about ageism from our illustrious leader that were followed up by other ageist remarks from him. There is more but that’s a taste.”

Call your Local and bargaining team, insist we want to Strike now, they are representing us, we pay the dues. Time to walk, pi-s on dragging it out. The company has a pattern of bargaining in bad faith which is against the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and its intent to Bargain In Good Faith, we are at an impasse They save money but not giving any raises or any improvements after the contract expiration and only start the negotiated raise when the new contract is ratified, it used to be retroactive. They no we won’t accept only 2% when all the other contracts have been at least 5% the first year and 3% thereafter till the end of the contract.

Let’s damn walk NOW!

I expect a 100% strike vote real soon, we are pi---d at the hypocrisy! I thought politicians were the worst, what was I thinking. Let’s do this, most of us are good for up to 6 months, some more than that. We have been saving for a long time and most of our spouses work. Make it up in OT when we return.
