In the past salary in oil & gas was sufficiently high to attract talents despite all the drawback of the company. Nowadays you can work in start ups with much better work environment and similar salary.

Yes, used to hire the best. ExxonMobil went downhill when they lowered their standards and hired from the third tier schools like LSU, UT, TAMU, and BYU. Lowering the standards like that is what is sinking ExxonMobil.

You have to go back more than 20 years to get to the time when Exxon was hiring the best.
We never hired the best. We hired people who were willing to become morally empty. Those who differed, left. We can confidently say that EM succeeds in employing absolutely the worst.
The excellent pay and benefits that were offered in the past being gone might have something to do with the trend you are seeing. Execs might think we aren't competing with FAANG for talent, but resignations say otherwise.
Nope. I used to work for that company during 8 years and I still do not remember that this company hired those kind of people, but I remember that EM changed the way to recognize people giving good job position to slackers, brownosers, backstabbers.
How about managers that are RE and probably losing $100k plus a year in pension benefits due to rising interest rates but keep showing up to work. You’ve got to be some sort of lunatic for that to make any sense to you. Retire, it’s ok to stop working. Stop throwing away $.
Anyone below the age of 50 who continues to work at ExxonMobil, you have to ask, what is wrong with them?

I keep seeing posts about middle management at Bmt chem o&a in different posts. Can u share more about what is happening and can you be specific which side you’re referring to? (O or A)? Is it a specific individual or the whole organization and what behaviors are you seeing? How does it compare to other sites?
I think nearly everyone we've recruited into our department in the last 5 years has resigned in the last 2 years.
I think for the most part XOM still hires good people ( well that depends on who’s doing the interview’s) At Exxon Mobil O&A chemical plant in Beaumont it’s the mid management that turns the employees from good to disgruntled. I have said it before and I’ll say it again about this place the lack of family time and massive overtime due to unneeded side projects is ki----g this place.
On the upstream side I’m still pretty happy with my colleagues, first line sups, and a good portion of the managers. It’s at the “ops manager”, “director”, and VP level that there is an utter failure of leadership. Invisible to the grunts, no direction. An utter disgrace to the company I knew.

Not really. I've seen Xom hire clowns in Annandale way before 2017.

Quite sad how the present group of exes run such a great company to the ground within the past 2 yrs. Worse thing is, either they r oblivious to what is happening on the ground right now or they r simply tone deaf. Those middle management r either helpless or dont dare to speak up for the fear for rocking the boat.

Well, Exxon may still want to hire the best but the irony is, does the best want to hire Exxon anymore or not is the real question.

I remember. I was one before I retired from EM in 2016. Times have changed, indeed. It is now a different company Thankfully I made it out alive at the age of 65
