@2ixy+13gCcTHA, no disrespect, but you sounds like a peon being fed lies to make yourself feel good about what's happening. We're all in this together. I don't consider still having a job at Macy's as a privilege. 680 Folsom is expensive to maintain and it was part of our offense for the longest time. Letting it go means we're retreating more and more to a defensive stance, and to what end?
Let's go back to when RB Harrison took over MCOM. He's a COO, he's a cost cutter, and he doesn't have a growth mindset. He f—ed it up. He got fired. Who's the genius who put him there to begin with? Jeff.
When RB took over, he tried to reduce the overall tech spend while maintaining the growth. MCOM was still growing double digit but slowing down. They didn't know why. Without knowing the problem(s), they couldn't come up with solution(s) and it's all back to grinding down the budget.
This is when you started seeing top talents fleeing the building. Projects got cut for no good reasons. Capital money was sent to JC to pay for expense work (it's borderline illegal). All Macy's know was defensive posture. They were also focused on paying down debts incurred during the 2005 acquisitions that doubled the number of stores.
There are two theories here. Either they really didn't know how to play offense. Or the thought of properly playing offense scared them. It was clear that having a website on it's own doesn't make a digital channel. Macy's logistics is so piss poor until today. The assortment was stunted by the NY merchants who're dinosaurs used to control which vendors get to s— on their tits, until the likes of Michael Kors realized that the milk was poisoned.
I have a prediction. Jeff will be fired soon. Look at his leadership team when he took over from TL. Look at the team now. Besides Tony Spring (Bloomies), they're all hand picked by him. This is his team. He owns all of successes and failures. Hal's departure put a dagger on his tenure at Macy's. It's only a matter of time before the board and the investors are fed up.
Another prediction: at least 4 of these people: https://www.macysinc.com/about/management-team will no longer be there 1 year from now.
