Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Ford figured it out - AI can't do acceptable QUALITY (at least not yet). Can you hear me now, Dan (and his cronies)?

Ford is rehiring veteran engineers to fix quality problems created by Ford's rush to implement AI/automation (admitted by their VP of vehicle hardware engineering - Charles Po-n). Oops, duh. At least they recognize the problem and how to address it. As an aside, building an already designed vehicle has got to be more "automatable" than designing a cell site and the even more "thinking/thoughtful" part - walking that project through all of the issues that pop up from the initial design through turn up.

My post it notes say that AI is the how. EI is the why. We’re the best in the business and I couldn’t be more energized and excited to be part of the future proof workforce of tomorrow - today!

One new build macro can easily cost half a million dollars all in. It is very easy to waste money building sites in sub-optimal locations, causing the need to build even more sites to address the original problems (capacity and/or coverage) sooner. Take a geographic area of 50 miles by 50 miles (2500 square miles) and build 3 new macros in sub-optimal areas, causing the need to build another 3 macros in 5 years (instead of maybe needing 2 new macros in 10 years in that area) shows $1.5 million wasted off the top, not too mention all of the rent and maintenance on those sub par sites. Keeping enough experienced RF design engineers at the front end is MUCH cheaper than having a skeleton crew of RFEs trying to keep their heads above water and approving whatever some contractor sends their way, as long as it is somewhere in the ballpark. IT TAKES TIME TO DO THE PROPER ANALYSIS, AND CURRENTLY THERE IS NOT TIME TO DO IT DUE TO THE WORKLOADS.

That won't stop verizon.
They're rolling out "AI" tools to replace all of the engineers at every step of the process and doing it far to fast.

They'll be wasting tens of millions building sites that simply don't work.

Same story, different author/website. Below is an excerpt:

Ford made a grave mistake with AI, and has learned the hard way what happens when you overcommit to the technology without properly training it — alienating top talent in the process.

The automaker said this week that it relied too heavily on AI instead of experienced engineers to bring its cars to market. Because of this, Ford has reversed course in the last three years and hired, promoted or rehired 350 experienced technical specialists as part of a sweeping effort to shore up vehicle quality control.
