I go on vacation tomorrow and my manager wanted to make sure I had my phone with me. "Why? More layoffs", I asked.
She confirmed yes. I told her if I'm hit, just call me in Japan and rip the band aid off.
Happy vacation to me!

I’m in VZ Connect and on vacation this week. Anyone know of VZConnect is impacted?
Standard protocol would be to call the personal phone on file in workday on Thursday if impacted. They will not wait for you to get back. Make sure to do a vacation hold delivery with FedEx. This way the docs sent fir severance get held then delivered when you're back.

Who would drop that kind of bo-b on you when you're in Japan?
I hope everyone in Public Sector sales ops gets canned. No loss, terrible people.
@dq pretty sure he was referrring to his personal phone..which has no restriction
Verizon’s international travel polices state you need to submit an international travel form if you’re taking your Verizon issued device (phones, laptops, etc.)….I’m sure all the proper forms were submitted before you left the country. Yes..I’m being sarcastic. Bureaucracy at work….
Only a scared fool would bring there work phone on vacation...
@br Glad you found a new gig quickly. Moral of the story: don't take your work phone on vacation, and don't give your personal cell number to coworkers.
@bj I do, it stands for Verizon Business Group. You're welcome.
I was on vacation when my teammates were texting me on my personal cellphone that RIFs were going on. Fortunately / unfortunately, I had my work cellphone with me.
Even though I had my OOO notifications on, my AD had set up several 15 minute calendar invites throughout the day. I called my AD to remind him that I was on vacation and wanted to know what was going on. He played it off that it could wait until I get back from vacation. I pressed the matter until he finally informed me that I was RIFed and that he would help me land somewhere else in the company (which was a lie). I was kicked to the curb ... another employee ID on the RIF spreadsheet.
Long story short, I enjoyed the rest of my vacation. Upon my return to the office, I was able to join another team within the 30 days time deadline and not take a severance package. My AD took the VSP package several years later in order to avoid future RIFs.
RIFs will happen regardless of vacation time, tenure, title, performance, salary level, etc. When it's the company's time for you to go, you will be kicked to the curb without any hesitation.
Does anyone know about VBG?
I'm in VCG.
My management was actually so cold and callous to RIF my coworker while he was on vacation for the last go around. They don't give a sh-t if they destroy your family vacation. I mean really, how can you have a good vacation after that?
Enjoy your trip!
celebrate with a wagyu steak, Sapporo beer and Saki
What group? GNT?
@OP can you share what org you’re in?
Japan is fantastic! I hope you enjoy your trip, and that things work out for the best, no matter what happens next week.
Going on vacation as well, its a shame they can't just tell us 6 7 or 8s now since (band 4-5) know either way. Hr and band 4-5 meet tomorrow to hand over the lists in their entirety but probably had conversations earlier this week.
Your boss will be cut before you.
In either case, Japan is beautiful.. Have fun
