I started at Ford in 1993. All employees were so excited when the new SN95 (1994 Mustang) launched. It sold over 150,000 units in 1994.
I had a 1999 Mustang GT convertible as a management lease car. Everyone loved that car.
The Mustang consistency sold around 150,000 units annually in the 1990s and through the mid-2000s. I was shocked to see that the 2023 Mustang sold less than 2,000 units in July 2023, and less than 28,000 units through the first 7 months of 2023!
Only id--ts could ruin an icon like the Mustang. That is Ford's most famous vehicle. Although the current Mustang is a higher performer than my 1999, the current car is too big, heavy and complex (reasons for the high cost). A Mustang was always about performance and simplicity. The current car has luxury car features.
