Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Even Ruined the Mustang

I started at Ford in 1993. All employees were so excited when the new SN95 (1994 Mustang) launched. It sold over 150,000 units in 1994.

I had a 1999 Mustang GT convertible as a management lease car. Everyone loved that car.

The Mustang consistency sold around 150,000 units annually in the 1990s and through the mid-2000s. I was shocked to see that the 2023 Mustang sold less than 2,000 units in July 2023, and less than 28,000 units through the first 7 months of 2023!

Only id--ts could ruin an icon like the Mustang. That is Ford's most famous vehicle. Although the current Mustang is a higher performer than my 1999, the current car is too big, heavy and complex (reasons for the high cost). A Mustang was always about performance and simplicity. The current car has luxury car features.

Who can afford them? I can’t.

2023 sales are artificially low due to a lame duck s550 model and s650 not yet being on sale.

Mustang sales have declined over the past decade but that has been a problem with 2 door coupes in general. Consumers just aren’t buying them like they used to which is why Camaro/Challenger will be dead after this year.

If the mach E didn't look so much like an Escape, i would consider it. Should have kept it looking like a sports car and not a generic sedan.

Eco boost mustang is a nurtured horse. Or a vw interpretation.

On the Mustang Mach E, 'Mach' should have been spelled 'Mock'. What a mistake, that vehicle cheapened the brand.

@OP. I agree with you. I've been wanting to buy a Mustang for a while now, but each year comes with worse quality. I want a simple performance car, with stick shift and I wouldn't mind a carburetor neither. I want more mechanic and less computer chips.

I already own a computer on wheels, A.K.A, a modern vehicle, which I use for the daily commutes and long trips. I want something simpler, that I can use to cruise around from time to time. Sadly, the new Mustang is not what I want.

I respectfully disagree with you. I own a 2022 ecoboost premium mustang and I like the features it has, especially ADAS. If I had simply wanted a "race car" then I would have saved a bit more of a GT. I certainly don't want a 1990s throwback car with the identical features. You might want manually cranked windows again, I don't. Everybody is different. The performance of my car is good and it has power when I need it. I never expected an "ecoboost" to be a race car. Again, that's what GT is for. I respect your preferences but don't pretend to speak for all buyers.

Mustang has been garbage post 2024. Retro su-ked and the hot pos of 2015 just god awful and overpriced. Way to routine a market segment. It’s so embarrassing and why all the obsession with the track, d-mb. Finally that fa----g noise of an exhaust has been terrible since 2005.

Muscle cars do not fit the narrative. And EVs as "GTs" su-k.

You can thank Bill.

amen brother. was just thinking about this the other day. all mustang reviews should start with (60 minutes reporter voiceover): "No longer an affordable pony car that the common man could aspire to own, the Ford Mustang has greatly increased power, technology, size...and price. Astute observers point out that this is the case for almost all of Ford's lineup. We travel to Dearborn Michigan to talk with the scion of the Ford family to get his take on the luxurification of Henry Ford's original vision."
