Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Has anyone who was laid off from Citi and received a redundancy/severance package later rejoined the company?

Has anyone who was laid off from Citi and received a redundancy/severance package later rejoined the company?

I’m trying to understand whether there is a formal waiting period before someone can be rehired, particularly where the exit package included severance pay, payment in lieu of notice, or other redundancy compensation.

Does the restriction vary depending on whether the person returns as a permanent employee, contractor, or consultant? Also, is the waiting period counted from the last working day, the official termination date, or the end of the PILON period?

Any recent experience from the UK or EMEA would be helpful.

Also (happened to someone I know), you are taxed on the FULL amount of severance, regardless of how much is paid back.

@a8 agreed. Stay only if you're close to retirement, totally incompetent and unemployable else or have a network built via bootlicking and nepotism that will look out for you.. At least till Layoffs reach that nepotistic too. Want an example of such nepotism? Loom no further than Nawani and his data group.

Everyone else should move away to something else. Doesn't mean a bank of America or Morgan or whatever doesn't have some of these same problems, but probably Citi has too many long timers, so it's a denser jungle of these problems

Personally, I would never go back to the dysfunction that is Citi. However, if you're laid off and receive a severance package, and rejoin prior to the end date of the severance, then you're required to pay back the balance. For instance, if you receive 12 weeks of severance and you rejoin Citi after 8 weeks, you're responsible to pay them back 4 weeks of severance. If you want to avoid that, then rejoin after the severance end date. Good luck to you if you choose either path - the place is so toxic that no job there is worth it.
