Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

ALSO not Layoff related but need some feedback

Is it normal that your PL calls you while on short term disability from work and asks multiple questions about my health and how I'm coming along and what my thoughts are about coming back to work. I don't like to stir things but the calls and texts I've gotten from my PL while on short term make me feel very uncomfortable.

@OP You can check company policy or contact HR yourself while on leave. Just ask her directly why she is checking on you—it is a completely reasonable question. Speak up confidently; you are an adult and a professional.

@OP @OP The PL probably likes you and wants you to come back to work after leave. But if you're not coming back, they can lay you off instead of someone else, and you'd get severance instead of quitting with nothing.

So if you're coming back, tell them unequivocally so they can plan accordingly.

If you're not coming back, make that clear too so you get laid off instead of someone else who wants the job. Plus you'll get severance.

My PL has been in contact checking on me. I seriously don’t think it is with malice intent, she genuinely cares about me and makes it a point to remind me the team has my back and don’t worry about work during this time. My coworkers have even sent flowers and care packages. I can understand the feeling of being uncomfortable, especially given then circumstances and how corporate has handled this. If I were you , I’d keep record of this communication especially being asked when you’ll be ready to return to work, that’s irrelevant and insensitive.

Follow up via email to keep a paper trail in case their motive are questionable.

My boss kept checking in on me while I was on maternity leave. The last time she contacted me was to tell me I was being laid off. She was a sneaky snake though. I was relieved when I got laid off to be honest. She was the creator of a toxic work environment. The grass was definitely greener!

I honestly think, you might be overthinking this. The call could simply be a kind gesture. Based on my personal experience, he may just want to check in on how you're doing as someone who genuinely cares. It really depends on the kind of relationship you have with your PL. As a PL myself, I've reached out to one of my analysts while he was on leave just to check on his health. I even visited his home and offered any help or support he might needed. (Just a footnote: he is working with me for more than 15 years.)

@aa laughable at best if you really believe HR is there for you the employee. They work for the company’s best interest not the employee. PL won’t even get in trouble, more like a heads up that you are complaining.

@ac NEVER contact HR. They are not there for employees. They are only there as a middle man for the legal department of the company. I can assure you this.

I was on leave for 3 months and never heard a peep from them. Lincoln Financial said to call LF a few business days before l wanted to come back to work.

@OP: Fairly certain they aren't allowed to do that. It does depend on the leave type and status of approval though. I'd recommend asking the.cokoany coordinating the leave to talk to CNC HR.

@OP PL are instructed not to contact you. You are only obligated to tell them several days before returning so they can initiate your return access. Your access to work is cut off and so should the PL.
