Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Fall cuts just around the corner

No one cares if you're star performer, a contractor with more exceeded expectations than any entitled individuals.

Everyone knows who's going to be impacted, if you hear your manager asking "summarize pending work for end of the year", you know you're one of the individuals going to be impacted.

4 people in our own squad were told their contracts won't be renewed, worst of all the individuals who's contracts aren't renewed are asked to give KT to new entitled snowflakes who can't even understand a basic forloop or join two tables.

What a sad way to burn the legacy down of a great product area.

Contract renewals are all over the place. Some folks got a year, some till the end of this year, some haven't heard at all. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

Of course contracts end, but the lack of transparency is super frustrating and feels so disrespectful.

It’s happening and rumor has it that it’s going to land on the Indians and contract workers really hard.

Since coming back into the office, it’s clear I’m just a number. I felt like part of a team, in the good ole days.

The while company seems to be pushing this even more than usual. Pair totally inexperienced people with brilliant people and watch the teams burn. Then brilliant people move on. They want less experts, less pay, more incompetence.

@ba I agree with the 'contractor' role sentiment. Heck some contractors want to end their contract so that they have some free time. I'd love a contract for 6 months that gave me a year or 2 gap in between.

I don’t feel sorry for contractors. They earn far too much! Sorry but i am not sorry

@bd what pay grade level are these people you’re trying to hand off the code?

My condolences for your loss in employment.

I am a contractor, I was told my last day will be September 8th last week.

And for real, I'm asked to give KT to some new team members who don't even know how inheritance work or how API authentication works.

This firm is doomed

Traditionally, and not just at Fidelity, contractors are released before regular employees. Part of hiring contractors is the flexibility to cancel or not renew contracts. It is part of the risk of being a contractor.
