Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Hold The Line!

DO NOT WITHDRAW YOUR VSP APPLICATION!

do not let this email pressure you into changing your mind. it’s time for them to put their money where their mouth is.

a Senior Leader advised they were looking to cut 20% of the total workforce. they received too many VSP applications and didn’t budget for this. they budgeted for some VSP and majority involuntary layoffs.

July will be an anxious month, but remember to breathe!

To offer 61000 people a VSP you can better believe they intend to cut big . Stupid to think otherwise

@c2 people’s livelihoods are threatened. some people are living paycheck to paycheck. we have no idea what is going on in their personal lives.

your privilege and lack of empathy is showing. I know if I were to get the boot today with no money, that my family would be fine. I’m fortunate, and I’m not going to sit here and tone police people who have every right to be p*ssed off.

you can take your words of encouragement and shove it.

I know it’s so disappointing to see people lashing out and talking negatively about the company, especially when there's a lack of transparency. It’s hard to watch others spiral into misery when things get tough. But as they say, when adversity hits, you really find out who the strongest people are. At the end of the day, a job isn’t personal—it’s financial. Nothing in life is ever guaranteed. They could easily just inform you today is your last day, give you your final pay, and part ways. It could always be worse.

I just wanted to share some encouragement and say that it's important not to let the negativity pull you down. I hope everyone finds some sort of peace and encouragement today, no matter what happens!

@bw only person I told was my manager and that’s because we have a good relationship.

I have lied to everyone else or avoided the topic altogether.

@af Or maybe they're just saying that they're not taking it because it's no one else's business 🤔

Hold the line!!?? Are we fighting the British or something? Stop the hysteria and ultimately everyone needs to do what is best for themselves and their family.

@ah Every career decision impacts both our personal and professional lives. While it would be ideal to know the future, everyone must navigate the path they chose. Management specified that the VSP is intended for employees already considering a departure. If your goal is to stay, withdrawing your application is the best step to avoid a potential layoff.
Risk tolerance varies, and there is truly no wrong decision. This is ultimately a financial choice—prioritize what makes sense for you and your family. Whether you transition out voluntarily or involuntarily, I am confident greater opportunities lie ahead. Hope everyone stays encouraged!

@ag I’d like to think the majority of people understand none of this is personal, it’s business. that said, business decisions impact our personal lives.

this clearly has a lot of people on edge. I almost feel like I would rather know up front. like “hey, you’re on the elimination list. do you want to stay?” and then go from there. sending out a wide net seems to have backfired in some way.

@ac Look here. Information is inconsistent across departments. Everyday, people share new rumors and percentages. Without clear transparency, you should ignore these claims.

Also, it is perfectly okay to withdraw a VSP (Voluntary Separation Program) application. If you want to stay with the company and hopefully avoid layoffs, you can change your mind.People just want to know if they will be affected. The bottom line? This is not personal. It is a financial move.

@OP the majority of people on my team are not taking the VSP. Maybe one or two. I know another team where no one is taking it. I don't feel that too many people are saying Yes to it especially 20% or even 10%.
Alot of people are still asleep 🤦

@ab the 20% I was referring to was from a post made by a Senior Leader on here early today. the 25% is what my PL told me and again, this was prior to the VSP.

I believe that all departments were given different targets. it’s possible for my department to be given a 25% target and the business to have an overall 20% target. two things can be true at the same time.

nothing about my OP was emotional. there is nothing wrong with sharing that people should not withdraw their application. that email caused a lot more stress for many and it’s because there still wasn’t 100% transparency, which is what is needed.

@a7 You need to STFU! You don’t know, regardless of what someone told you, your PL is in the same boat as everyone else! This post said they are looking to cut 20 percent now you are saying 25 percent in your department alone. The math ain’t mathing! I mean folks say new percentages about cuts everyday! Forget AI, it can’t replace my job or department, but that doesn’t mean I won’t get lay off. It’s seems more of a financial move-has nothing to do with the value anyone brings to their role. I’m sure if they could keep everyone they would. It’s no different than budgeting bills and seeing where you should or should not spend. People take sh-t way too personal on this website, people really want to be a miserable a-s human being. I get it your job is threaten, so is mine , but I’m not going to be negative about it, I’m going do what’s best for me and my family and everyone needs to do the same.

Can anyone share what the latest email is that OP is referring to? I’m out on maternity leave and haven’t been at Centene for 2 years so am not eligible but have been trying to follow the chaos…

@a6 clarification would have been complete transparency on how many people they were needing to cut.

they could have told us and then had people make their decision whether they wanted to take the VSP offer.

@a6 respectfully STFU. my PL was advised they needed to cut 25% of our staff and this was prior to the VSP.

stop saying “no one knows”… people talk. you think with this AI push and membership losses (with more to come), that 20% cut is out of reach?? get your head out of the sand.

@OP This is pure lies, nobody has insight on how many people they are looking to cut or how many VSP applications were received! Please stop saying anything out of pure fear and emotions! Just take what they said at face value- they wanted to clarify as people are spreading misinformation.

They thought the job market was too bad and people wouldn’t apply. Total silence since the announcement, what were they thinking?
