Thinking of changing my mind

Hey! I’m an RN in UM and initially I was going to take the VSP and just get the he-l out of there with all the crazy stuff that’s been happening the last few years. It’s not the company I initially signed up for. Then I started reading about VSP’s and the different tax issues and wondered if they would even pay us that amount, worrying about acceptance etc. So I backed out and declined it. today’s email definitely came out of left field and now I’m thinking I should just take the damn VSP. The clock is ticking and I’m on the fence. My concerns are that if you don’t take the VSP and are one of the employees that are left behind the workload is going to be nuts – with all the crazy new changes and lack of staff it’s gonna be worse than it’s ever been.Anyone else going back and forth on this at the midnight hour? Thanks for listening and good luck to all of you! 💗

July 2

The application deadline is still July 2 even though the other date changed from July 15 to the 27th.
The clause "we strongly suggest you apply for the VSP only if you want to leave Centene" with the hope that people will change their yes to a no? I mean are there really people applying that want to stay? The point of saying yes is to leave isn't it?
I'm so confused.

This Is Some Bullsh*t

why won’t they just tell us how many people need to be cut??

would it be that terrible for us to know? I would have felt better knowing instead of doing mental gymnastics before choosing to apply for the VSP.

“we have the tough conversations.”

B*TCH SAY WHAT YOU NEED TO SAY.

I’m so irritated by how this is being handled. IRRITATED AF.

Hold The Line!

DO NOT WITHDRAW YOUR VSP APPLICATION!

do not let this email pressure you into changing your mind. it’s time for them to put their money where their mouth is.

a Senior Leader advised they were looking to cut 20% of the total workforce. they received too many VSP applications and didn’t budget for this. they budgeted for some VSP and majority involuntary layoffs.

July will be an anxious month, but remember to breathe!

Anyone Else Confused by Centene's Messaging

Does anyone else feel like Centene is shifting its narrative internally? The recent Townhall seemed to downplay the Voluntary Separation Program (VSP)—almost like it’s no big deal. Now, we receive an email suggesting we should only proceed if we genuinely want to and offering a chance to retract our acceptance. What’s going on here? I’m really confused. This adds to the uncertainty, especially with the ongoing discussions about impending layoffs and restructuring. It feels incredibly contradictory.

Strategic Storytelling

As C-Suite gals, you would think they would align on messaging. Perhaps Tanya's communication team did not check on the spin from Sarah's heartfelt video. Perhaps they hoped us One CenTeamer's did not pick up on the "change in tone" and call BS! Stay tuned fellow VSP candidates. Will wait for the next episode of The Housewives of Centene C-Suites to see what they have in store for their valued employees.

FAFO

I think they f*cked around and found out that a large majority of their workforce applied for the VSP lmaooooooo.

I could be wrong, but if they would just tell us the PERCENTAGE of the workforce being laid off, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

“this program is intended”… f*ck intentions at this point. “if you want to leave Centene”… I had no plans to leave Centene, but here I am with an application to BOUNCE!

these cost savings will not go to promotions and raises that are well deserved. it is CRYSTAL CLEAR work loads will increase.

absolutely not.

Perfect Storm - Mission Simplify + VSP + ISP

There is a perfect storm brewing. Leaders have been in rooms in Mission simplify with what I heard are over 1500+ initiatives for next year. We are cutting our workforce significantly either voluntarily or involuntarily. There will be so much more visibility and scrutiny on those initiatives than every before and they will forget Sep 2nd we just lost a good portion of our team. Those of us left are going to have to make those happen while likely losing SME's during VSP and ISP losses.

With 24 hours left to decide this is front of mind.

New job or risk it for the severance pay?

This is stressing me out a lot more than I would like it to. :/ If you apply for jobs that are hiring now, they won't want to wait until September. I see two options:
1- You get a job offer now, take it and loose out on the severance pay.
2- Decline job offers and risk not being able to get a job when the time comes but get the severance pay. (Assuming your VSP is accepted and everything with metrics goes smoothly in order to get the VSP..)
I wish they would just let me go now because there's so much of not knowing it's torture. I can't shake the feeling that they're gonna fire people for any reason they can so they don't have to give the VSP. But I've never been at a company that was doing layoffs and felt my job was at risk, so maybe I'm being dramatic.

Submitting Today

I am submitting my VSP today. Nobody is doing anything...leadership out constantly... its joe over. I might be on a generational run right now though... I was lucky and have a final interview for role outside of healthcare... I wont get into the specifics, but I do feel very confident based on all available information, and conversations with the hiring manager. No, its not iron clad, but its enough for me to take the leap and leave. Since I haven't had a bonus the entire time I have worked here.... the VSP would be nice. However, they really don't want anyone to actually be able to take it though. It takes a very particular situation to benefit from the VSP based on all of the restrictions. There is nothing HUMAN about executive's behavior. The lies. The condescending rhetoric. The "transformations." Its bogus and I am over it. I wish everyone the best of luck, truly.

Medical Leave

what do you think would happen if our VSP application was denied, then we made it through the August cuts and then decided to take medical leave?

if they were to terminate your employment during that point, do you think there would be a case if there’s proof of denying the VSP?

I have a feeling I’m going to be held back and blocked from moving internally. I’d like to buy myself some time and I need a mental break.

IRR testing

For UM/PA staff, the IRR testing starts August (?), what happens if someones signs up for VSP but didnt pass? I personally never failed an IRR so dont come for me and leave nasty comments. Just genuinely curious if it holds any weight for people who’s if VSP was approved and about to leave the company anyway. Thoughts?

Has your People Leader gathered their team and addressed the VSP concerns of the team?

My People Leader has not spoken to the team. People Leaders on other teams in different departments have met with their teams as a whole and with individuals. I refuse to believe that the PL don’t know who will be impacted by the future layoffs.

So Disgusted

For so many reasons. I actually liked work and thought good company. Worked hard but was ok with that. Now we VSP and your performance doesn’t matter been here 9 years meeting the metric etc great reviews and am now getting the same package as someone who rested on their laurels. So unfair they don’t give a cr-p about us. VSP looks better for them vs layoffs. VSP is u get the extra severance bonus and cobra. Layoff less but maybe just won’t get the extras. Not huge difference. Going with VSP but feeling like I’m signing under duress cuz if we don’t it’s layoffs. The whole thing just su-ks all around

When to accept new job offer?

Based on the language in the VSP offer details, does anyone know if accepting a job offer before your last day with Centene and before you officially sign the VSP agreement will void your eligibility for the VSP and you won't receive your severance payment?

Or should you only officially accept a job offer with another employer after your last day with Centene and after you sign the VSP agreement in September?

One Big Beautiful Bill

I highly recommend reading up on the “One Big Beautiful Bill' signed recently. Understanding the details of this legislation provides a lot of insight into the broader industry shifts, which explains why the company is offering the VSP and discussing potential layoffs right now.

The Hunger Games... part who knows I lost track

So I been debating on writing this post all weekend. On Friday my team received updated information from our supervision team regarding what to expect, that they are willing to release that is. This information included that all VSP will be accepted, outside of those that cannot be due to "company needs" (whatever that means). That the expected member loss numbers for the coming year are to be between 100k-200k. That after they review the VSP that they will then re-evaluate the needed number to be laid off if enough people don't take the voluntary hit.
Speaking as an employee if I am being very frank... If management want to do this as quickly and willingly as possible, they might consider providing the language expected to be sent with the VSP contract and allow for it to be written as a Voluntary Separation in lieu of projected possible layoff. This would allow those that need to, to file for Unemployment Insurance without having to fight up-hill. Especially since most people in this economy are living paycheck to paycheck. Those that have saving know that it will only last so long considering the job market and current living costs due to inflation. Secondly, anyone who has been here longer than a year know that this is just one in many cycles of layoffs since the transition to current leadership. There is no reason to believe anything we are told at this point. What is the expectation, what is the projection for expectations following the layoffs? How are we to be expected to meet the already rising expectations and decreasing co-worker numbers?
Couple that with the fact that we were also notified as of Friday even with all of this that all employees are going to expected to meet all expectations, and metrics regardless of situation, stress, lowered numbers and that management is going to be expected to enforce this across the board. I am so confused, with very few exceptions the people I have met in my time here spend every waking minute going above and beyond for our members, while at the same time expectations are tossed onto the heap with no explanation other than get it done. The number of hours in the day hasn't changed, the amount of work has increased at least five-fold, the duties keep getting tossed on our backs and you think that means it just magically gets done... Last time I checked I don't have a magic wand, if I did, I definitely wouldn't be in this situation, and neither would my members are co-workers.
So I would suggest that maybe management instead of just looking at how much money they need for investors takes a good look at the toll those goals is having on its workforce. I am telling you right now as someone who can see the writing on the wall at some point we all break. At some point the expenses that you will be looking at will be in disability insurance claims for the toll of the emotional and physical stress that you cause your employees.
I know this is a long post and for that sorry not sorry... But holy he-l batman when are is anyone going to listen to what is really happening. The people in the trenches are crying out for help, under a mountain of work, while doing everything we can to help members that are losing everything around us. You cannot keep moving the goal post ahead and looking down saying we aren't doing enough. Then mock up by send a freaking survey out the week you notify us all that we are temporary at best and really don't matter, while in the same breath shouting that we better meet those metrics and goals. THE AUDACITY!
So lastly, may the odds be ever in our favor. The 2026 Hunger Games have begun. To my co-workers I see you and hear you, I care that you are struggling even if they don't. No matter what happens I see your value and the way you affect these members every day. No matter what happens, take care of yourself and make the decisions that will make you okay.

VSP Denial

in the slim chance your VSP application is denied, what is your plan? I can’t decide whether to put in my two weeks immediately or wait for the layoff notification.

I’m leaning towards putting in my two weeks.

I don’t believe the business will deny the application to just decide to lay us off two weeks later. I do see the business trying to work us to death for a few more months, then decide they don’t need us and give us the boot then.

I already two the work of 2.5 FTEs, I’m not taking on anything more.

Negativity

I truly do not understand some of the negative comments on these posts to people trying to navigate through this scary time. We are scared and stressed about what to do. We are all looking for just a little compassion and understanding depending if we take the VSP or not, but no need to be rude to people who are deciding to take it. Trust me I am struggling with the decision which I bet most of us are! A little niceness goes a very long way with people who are nervous and scared
