Boston Administration Declines Funds to Halt School Job Cuts
The Wu administration refused to use reserve funds for Boston Public Schools. This decision prevents reinstating over 560 eliminated positions. The job cuts resulted from a $1.7 billion BPS budget. Declining enrollment and lower state aid contributed to the cuts. The city spokesperson cited long-term financial stability as a reason.

Layoff Check In
Any news on potential layoffs? If trends persist, they’re quarterly & won’t be stopping anytime soon.
Trapped in a doom loop
Management only seems to know how to cut costs. They can't grow the business, so they just keep trimming people. But that approach is making the innovation problem even worse, which brings us back to square one. They're stuck in a pattern they can't seem to escape.
Cuts after the holiday
I'm on edge about whether there will be cuts this week. I wouldn't put it past them to do it just after the holiday.
How does the rest of the month look?
Will there be even more cuts?
Anyone heard anything today???
It's happening soon right
What about this week?
Will there be cuts?
When's the next wave?
I'm thinking we won't see more cuts until next year. Anyone else have thoughts on timing?
Central Oregon Schools Implement Cuts, Avoid Layoffs
Central Oregon school districts are implementing significant budget reductions for the 2026-27 school year. These cuts stem from declining enrollment, rising costs, and reduced state and federal funding. Bend-La Pine cut $7 million, Redmond $3.5 million, and Jefferson County $2 million. Despite these large cuts, no staff layoffs occurred across the districts. Positions were eliminated through attrition and staff reassignments, though class sizes may increase.
