AI "super bubble" about to burst.

SPACEX was the trigger, we are all in for a world of pain. OpenAI will fall and Oracle will go with it. They cant cut enough heads to make up for the losses, hiding these cuts as "AI innovation" no longer makes sense.

Titanic? It never sinks right? Right?

I think the downfall really started back in 2016, everyone I speak (ys staff) is negative and tells me to sell my stocks now. After 2016 the company became bloated and started its India Journey and reducing quality and costs (it worked!!). At the same time it became a D&I playground for LHBTQI folks and as white male you were almost shamed for who you are and LT got targets getting more minorities and females promoted.

Good luck all, the good ones (you?) will find a better place their is al lot going on, just not in oil and gas anymore.

Sharing my research results:

Upstream & Exploration: Implementing a 20% headcount reduction across exploration, subsurface, and well-engineering teams over Q2 and Q3 2026.
Regions: Heavily hitting main administrative and technical hubs in Houston (USA), The Hague (Netherlands), and London/Aberdeen (UK).

Downstream & Chemicals: Downsizing operational footprints throughout 2026 to contain cash bleeding following multi-billion dollar losses in base chemical segments.
Regions: Layoffs and scale-backs target older processing infrastructure in Rotterdam (Netherlands), Stanlow (UK), and Monaca (USA), following a complete exit from Singapore assets.

Global Business Operations: Consolidating corporate back-offices and shifting away from generalized administrative roles.
Regions: Shared-service hubs in Continental Europe are affected, including roughly 300 job cuts executed at the Kraków (Poland) center in June 2026.

Low Carbon Solutions: Personnel cuts are occurring dynamically throughout 2026 as renewable projects are deferred or canceled.
Regions: Impacting project engineering and corporate green teams primarily across Northwest Europe (e.g., matching the construction pause at the Rotterdam biofuels facility).

It is natural to feel anxious when restructuring threatens your security, but corporate changes cannot diminish your personal value or expertise. While you cannot control executive decisions, you can reclaim power by auditing your wins, refreshing your resume, and reaching out to your network. Lean on the solid foundation of skills you own; companies change, but your capability remains.

We should be seeing more cuts soonish

I've been here long enough to have noticed a pattern. Each year, around this time, there are cuts. It's not a massive round, but it's always something. A few people here, a few there, but it always happens like clockwork. If you've been here a while, you know what I'm talking about.

Lucid Motors Announces Global Layoffs, Affecting Arizona

Lucid Group announced significant layoffs. Over 1,400 employees will be affected companywide. Hundreds of these job cuts are in Arizona. This action aligns production with current demand. One C-suite executive also lost their position.

Leadership doesn’t want to be transparent because you wouldn’t like what they told you

Leadership doesn’t want to be transparent because you wouldn’t like what they told you if they were transparent.

Mainly, that they are now not trying to manage a “comeback” as much as they are trying to manage “an orderly decline in Nike’s previously hegemonic industry position.”

Nike isn’t going away. But it is also no longer a growth company, and for several reasons I won’t get into here the company likely reached a plateau a few years ago. The market in which Nike was established and grew effectively no longer exists. Or at least, the old rules that allowed Nike to continuously succeed are no longer the rules.

As a result Nike needs to balance “doing what Nike has historically done” with the reality that the company still needs to significantly downsize. If you’re management, there’s no polite, nice, or pep-talk way to communicate that. So they don’t.

Like I said the reasons for Nike’s decline are multi-faceted and in some ways complex. Nonetheless the company IS now just trying to hang on to what it already has. Talk of a “comeback” is sort of what they have to say but make no mistake; leadership is not naive to broader market trends that disfavor any sort of tangible “comeback”.

My partner will sometimes put on some ugly clothes and ask me, “How do I look?” My partner likes those clothes. So I answer with “You look great!”, and leave it at that.

Should I instead be more transparent? Should I instead engage in “more honest communication”? Maybe. But will that improve matters? Or create a new problem neither of us needed?

One could argue Nike is being kind by not being fully transparent. I’m not claiming that would be a GOOD argument. Just an understandable argument. Because if Nike leadership was fully transparent about the current field of play and what it really means, my guess is that it 100% would not make people feel better.

Coming up on 2-year anniversary of the July 2024 layoffs

I’m just reflecting on UKG post July 2024 RIF and the downward spiral that I’ve watched this once unicorn company go through.

  • March 2020, Ultimate Software and Kronos merger.
  • June 2022, CEO Aron Ain steps down. Enter Chris Todd.
  • Fall 2022, Global Delivery introduced.
  • July 2024 RIF, over 2,000 employees. Chris Todd removed as CEO. Enter Jennifer Morgan.
  • Following July 2024 RIF, major company re-org.
  • Global Delivery grows, while positions in the US are quietly being eliminated. Also, when US employees leave, their roles are not backfilled (I had several teammates leave, but not a single role was filled).
  • February 2026, RIF.
  • April 2026, RIF.
  • Current: Bulk hiring for Solutions Consultants in NOIDA / India as “transitioners” (delayed lay off employees) help to train them on their jobs, so they can take over come August 2026.

What did I miss?

What is happening to this once unicorn company?

UKG is in shambles.

Channeling Vengeance for the Downsized

Regardless of whether you are currently in the latest round of layoffs or simply anticipating your turn on the chopping block, consider this thread a sanctuary for our shared grievances. Channel your hatred, humiliation, and the injustices inflicted by your dim-witted yet treacherous and repulsive (desi) colleagues, and manifest them as curses here. Together, our concentrated malice will surely invoke cosmic intervention to cleanse.

Anyone else concerned that declining sales will cause layoffs?

Ford and Lincoln in major decline, other manufacturers are not. From tge DN:

Ford Motor Co.'s U.S. sales declined almost 14% year-over-year in May, despite the introduction last month of employee discounted pricing for all.
The Dearborn automaker cited the discontinuation of the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair crossovers as well as reduced daily rental volumes for the decline. Without those, Ford said sales would've been down 1%, according to the company.
Cox Automotive Inc. ahead of the results was forecasting a flat May for the industry resulting from low consumer confidence and higher gas prices balanced by stock market growth and larger tax returns. With Ford discontinuing a few models and its next major vehicle launch not happening until 2027, analysts had forecast the automaker would struggle to keep pace in 2026.
The best-selling trucks in the United States, F-Series pickups and cabs, fell 13% as the company still works through limited inventory from an aluminum shortage stemming from multiple fires last fall at a supplier. The smaller Ranger fell 23%, and Maverick rose10% to a May record with its best sales month for its hybrid version. The Transit commercial van grew 4.2%, including a 22% decrease for the electric version.
Ford SUVs fell 21%, though large SUVs still are marking their best start to a year in 25 years. Explorer grew 8.8%, and Bronco rose 5.2% to a May record. But Bronco Sport dropped 8.3%, and Expedition declined 24%, though it had its best monthly retail share in six years. The electric Mustang Mach-E fell 44%. The Mustang coupe declined 1.8%.
Lincoln sales also declined 21% with all models down: Nautilus at 7.6%, Aviator at 6.1% and Navigator at 10.8%.
Ford is offering employee pricing for all through the July 4 weekend to mark the 250th anniversary of America's founding. The automaker in 2025 had a similar promotion through the summer in response to uncertainty created by new tariffs introduced by the Trump administration.
In May, Subaru Inc. reported U.S. sales were up 10%, Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd.'s increased 3%, Kia Corp.'s rose11% to a monthly record and Mazda Motor Corp.'s rose 35%. General Motors Co. and Chrysler and Jeep parent Stellantis NV will report second-quarter sales in July.
