Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Has your People Leader gathered their team and addressed the VSP concerns of the team?

My People Leader has not spoken to the team. People Leaders on other teams in different departments have met with their teams as a whole and with individuals. I refuse to believe that the PL don’t know who will be impacted by the future layoffs.

@a2 is it true that once the VSP numbers are in and other layoffs occur, that the remaining employees will be expected to handle all lines of business?

@a9 I don’t believe that’s correct. In the FAQs in the VSP offer, it says that if you do not take the VSP and you are laid off later that the severance may or may not be as good as the VSP severance offer.

@e0 It sounds nice. Make horrible business decisions and praise the admin that is cutting our member's benefits, RIF your employees, dump whatever money we have left into AI company scams to RIF even more employees, and you can sleep soundly at night.

Meanwhile I'm putting off my dogs surgery he needs because I have to choose between his health and the roof over our heads.

@dz Oops, I meant $50 million. Is it nice to not have to worry about your livelihood?

@a9 Hey, Sarah. How's that $19 million net worth treating you?

PL here. Truly have no idea. That may mean my group is already at risk for RIFs. VSP was a surprise as well.

I’ve got nothing to share but have talked to my team about it in our team meetings and 1:1. My team is nervous and understandably so, but we’ve got nothing coming from leadership so far.

@a9 It is not fear mongering to acknowledge that millions of people may lose or be disenrolled from Medicaid leading into 2027 or that Centene is the largest Medicaid managed care provider. The VSP is unprecedented and Centene would not be offering it if they believed they could readily weather this storm, on top of the 2 million member loss they’re already reeling from. No way sugar coat that.

It’s really simple, if you want to keep your job don’t sign up for VSP. If enough people don’t take a VSP there might be a RIF and re-org, but we have an email from Tanya if people are let go unwilling it won’t effect normal severance or anything else they offer during a RIG.

So much fear mongering and speculation, read the FAQs and communications.

All a VSP does it let more people keep their job who want their job, and lets people planning to move on, to move on.

It is really that simple.

To the people claiming 30-40% RIFs, you are smoking crack. Membership is only down 6% nationwide. Marketplace lost 30% of membership.

If 6k people get a RIF, that is 10% of the workforce (before VSP), so you have a 1/10 chance of losing your job BEFORE VSP, which will reduce that probability even further.

the only time it has came up on my team was in 1 on 1's and even then they dont like to talk about it...I brought it up and all they say it wait and see kind of approach...a lot of people think they are bullet proof but then why did they offer VSP to 90%+ for the company to begin with?? everyone just be mindful and expect everything/anything going fwd..

they literally do not know.

my PL had let me know prior to the VSP that layoffs were coming. at that time, they said they could only make recommendations as to who cannot get cut, but the final decision was not theirs.

they will find out within the next two weeks who applied for the VSP and I’m assuming who is on the list to get cut, especially if there are several members of a team who applied for the VSP. transition plans and such have to be made.

I think my application could get denied, but joke’s on them because I’m leaving regardless.

To be clear, everyone is in the same position right now, and no roles are guaranteed—leadership, management, and PLs have all been offered the VSP. We are operating with the exact same information that was sent out to the entire company. We currently have no additional details and are all waiting for updates. I’m sure there will be more transparent information around 7/15 or sooner.

Sometimes they do know and sometimes it is at SVP or higher my VP told me I was not impacted by the layoff all the way until the day before and then her boss told her I was impacted the night before he laid me off... Got to love BTS and the secret BS

As a high level PL, we are 100% in the dark. No 'cuts' will even occur till CN knows who signs up for VSP - that date is still days away. If VSP captures the 'right' count, then i expect no to very little RIF. Will there be org changes post vsp - totally. But that does not mean RIF's. And - No PL that i know, knows the org changes being discussed - it's at a very high level is my guess.
