Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Thinking of changing my mind

Hey! I’m an RN in UM and initially I was going to take the VSP and just get the he-l out of there with all the crazy stuff that’s been happening the last few years. It’s not the company I initially signed up for. Then I started reading about VSP’s and the different tax issues and wondered if they would even pay us that amount, worrying about acceptance etc. So I backed out and declined it. today’s email definitely came out of left field and now I’m thinking I should just take the damn VSP. The clock is ticking and I’m on the fence. My concerns are that if you don’t take the VSP and are one of the employees that are left behind the workload is going to be nuts – with all the crazy new changes and lack of staff it’s gonna be worse than it’s ever been.Anyone else going back and forth on this at the midnight hour? Thanks for listening and good luck to all of you! 💗

@a5 RNs are in super high demand! You'll have no trouble finding a great job. Enjoy that phat check and take some time off. Nurses are some of the hardest working people I know. Thank you for having the heart to do what you do!!!

@a4 I have seen in the media Health Payer Specialist in particular that they are pulling out of the ACA market Ambetter in NH. I am sure most likely other states will follow just not sure which.

I am guessing the "email" you are referencing was only to UM nurses?

I am looking and the only email I am seeing from yesterday is the reminder email that VSP deadline is today. Just trying to make sure I haven't missed anything during these last few hours.

Wishing you the best of luck regardless of what you decide.

Don't let these evil little weasels get in your head anymore than they already have. It benefits them for us to be confused and indecisive, which is why they're playing games. You do what's best for you and block out everything else. If getting a lump sump payout and looking for new work makes the most sense for you financially, take the VSP. If sticking around and collecting as many paychecks as you can before they start axing people left and right makes the most sense for you financially, then stay put and keep your head down. Remember: they're not telling us anything that would hurt them for us to know. They want us to do the dirty work for them. They want us to take on the stress for them. Don't get su-ked in to their posturing and optics; any information they give us at this point is part of their strategy. Focus on your strategy.

take it. the workload IS going to be nuts. I’m in a completely different role, but my leader confirmed we will be expected to do more with less resources.

I’m not working myself into an early grave.

We're in a difficult situation. With regard to taxes, income is income. The IRS doesn't tax severance differently from the wages you earn throughout the year. The difference is that employers often withhold more taxes from severance checks up front, which makes the initial payment look much smaller. When you file your tax return, it's all combined as ordinary income. If too much tax was withheld from your severance check, you'll get that money back when you file your tax return. You will be without that refund for a period of time, though.

Hope that helps!

Go for it!

Better to leave of your own volition with a bunch of their money in your pocket, than to end up getting booted out on your @ss in a few months anyway, with nothing.

@a3 Howdy from another Ambetter Rn 👋🏽 I have a bad feeling that even if they approved the vsp, if we aren’t meeting metrics then they would pull it back from us. It’s one if their clauses. No one is meeting metrics right now.

RN in UM ( at one of the largest Ambetter states). signed then retracted a day later. here i am awake at midnight still cant decide. worst part is, the company holds all the cards. the one who holds the money cracks the whip. cruel and inhumane. will signing the VSP guarantees i get something at least cause there’s rumors going around that involuntary layoffs, the company is not legally obligated to pay you severance. a lot of misinformation and people downplaying it.
sighs….

@a1 taking the vsp vs not taking it and looking for another job/leaving on my own terms%

Rn in UM here! Totally going back and forth. That email today left such a bad bad taste in my mouth. Awful awful people. I’m torn between taking the gap vs. it taking it and looking for another job and leaving on my own terms. They are so shady with everything that I just don’t trust that they will even pay out to those who get accepted for the vsp anyways.
