From the first day, this company has been complete dysfunctional chaos. People have been steadily leaving for better opportunities for months. Not sure who is going to be building the product with all these layoffs.

@d9 Bummer. I had assumed if I was affected they would have made some effort to notify me since I haven't been regularly checking email while on leave. I'll just have to ping my manger on Teams and see what they say in the morning.

@d4

No, sorry. Everyone was sent an invite, which went to two different calls. Also, a lot of folks' last day is the 27th. You might be safe, but neither of those are clear indicators that you are.

So how do you know if you're affected or not? Has everyone affected been notified already? I'm on parental leave and checked my email this evening and saw I had an invite to a meeting this morning with Joel Hiron just called Product Engineering Organizational Announcements, which I didn't attend. No HR meeting and my logins all still work. Does that mean I'm safe?

Anyone know how they determined who got cut? AI usage metrics perhaps?

Do people know their last day? Are they done? I am so stressed. No one is telling anything. I don’t know who was let go from my team. No emails, nothing.

They generally do hard during Oct/Nov! They did one in 2016 approx 2K ! They do that every year but not with such announcement! Similar happened in 2016!

@bf so this one was soft?

@b1 i was with TR for well over a decade. They have a script for layoffs. Not due to financial reasons. They call it a reorg, so it doesn’t get reported as layoffs. They do it soft in the summer and then again in November so it doesnt seem large and stays under the radar. Usually the second round is a week or so before thanksgiving.

@b8 similar call you were either in call that kept you or call telling you, you were let go

@b6 Who did the "you're affected" calls and how were they conducted? Was it a similar very wide group with everyone, or smaller groups?

@b3 yep, you were on one call or the other

@b3 - Yes. They even did it twice for those that didn't make the first round.

@b1 - As per TR normal protocol. Individual team leaders were not notified of impending actions. Many learned the same time as others received their notification.

They are saying end dates are based on region and role, i know of at least one notified today, last day in two, access will be revoked by this afternoon. Where I know of another with 2 weeks of lead time.

They are being cryptic on "future" actions, but definitely not declining it.

They are saying there is a re-org coming that will provide clarity to those that remain.

At the end of the day, this is BS, it is both mentally and physically draining. Leaders in TR do NOT have the power to determine the value of their team, or its individual members. They build the best team they can, they follow the guidelines, make performance decisions, and build strong teams even with their limited funding and pressure; Only to have some person with a "organizational vision" or a "financial goal" to just say your team don't need this...

Was there actually a "you're affected" call that was concurrent with the "you're safe (for now)" call?

Should we still expect another layoff in November?? Seems likely considering what’s happening these days everywhere

OP here.

Not sure what the "India" mention was for, but Joel mentioned it on both calls, and that it wasn't a "geographic" thing. As @a3 said, we won't have any info for weeks, so we won't know if it's whole teams that got fired or if the layoffs were distributed across teams.

He also said it wasn't due to costs or AI. There was also a mention about becoming more lean? Obviously that isn't something that has to do with number of people but with the various bureaucratic bullsh-t, unnecessary approvals, lack of consistent meritocracy, and the forced AI slop everywhere. And I have zero hope that they won't accidentally fire key people based on some sh---y metric, which will only make everyone who survived suffer.

In short, it felt like a lot of words were used but nothing was actually said.

@am what's the total count? The roles seems to be 490, but how many headcount are affected. The message also seems to be that there will be more!

waiting for the fallout, as we spend weeks discovering who was impacted, by way of reaching out for something only to discover that they're not there.
