work scope creep

coworker got laid off few months back and i had to absorb 100% of his workload and was thanked for being a team player and stepping up, now i get feedback on not being fast enough with that added workload. is this a strategy to push me out?

It's everywhere. Hiring freeze but work continues. As recommended earlier..ask what you should stop doing/have management prioritize. So frustrating.

@OP. I don't think they want to fire you. I think they want to ding your evaluation enough, so it is harder for you to find another place at Ford, and justify the bonus cut/small salary increase. It is a normal tactic for managers that oppress their underlings.

Manager gets the project deliveries, without the added spending of more headcount, gets bigger bonuses, maybe a promotion. You'll get headaches, a growing list of tasks to do, more responsibilities, but little compensation.

Two ways to fight this. Find a job in another company, or forget about "growth" at Ford. Now you'll do things by the book, including no free OT. Just do your 40 hours, and let the projects pile up. Ask the manager for your top priority. Be aware of the BS answer "all of them are high priority" (my manager told me that, what a sleazeball). My answer was I can only work on one thing at a time. Choose the top priority project. If still giving you the runaround, work on an important project, but not the one with the loudest customers. And send them to your manager. Your manager will choose for you LOL...

Remember...this coming from a company that just had to hire back engineers they fired because they though AI was going to replace them on the plant floors and elsewhere. Meanwhile the executive that MADE that call to release those "greybeards" likely gets promoted instead of kick out on their a$$ for making such a tone deaf decision. I hope the employees being hired back demanded double premium and absolutely reamed them a new one.

Make sure your NEW agreed deliverables are in writing, including rank prioritization of each category. Make sure you and the supervisor sign in black or blue ink, never pencil.

Never except work labeled as more without understanding prioritization and how to balance when push comes to shove. Warn early. Same really for role changes. Nothing is ever dropped immediately or really completely in the foreseeable near term. Understand, agree, require payback (recognition plus safeguards on rating) and then deliver what you agreed to deliver. Or pay consequences.

Any company that redistributes work after a layoff, and you are able to complete your work and the added work, you are now expected to do all the work in a timely manner.

Act your wage. The problem with above and beyond as it turns into a normal expectation. If they say they want you to "be a man of many hats" or anything along those lines, it means they want you to do the work of 3 people but only get paid for 1.

What strategy? We are an ethical company. There are not strategies or secret plots. You're just being paranoid. Do you have reason to be paranoid? Are you working multiple jobs? Is that why you aren't fast enough with that added workload?
