Thread regarding Kyndryl layoffs

Still at Kyndryl and hating it

I know it sounds odd considering the state of the job market, but I keep hoping I'll be on the layoff list. I'm too chickenshit to quit, so having them make the decision for me would be perfect. I was excited when we were spun-off, imagining great things, but I was brought back to reality fast. Now all I want is to be out of here.

If you are old enough to retire, wait until you get laid off. If you need a job for the next several years, update your resume and LinkedIn immediately. That way you have a head start when Kyndryl inevitably does lay you off.

@ar Instead we have to pick different plays and market models every 12-18 mos to hurry and ramp up instead of picking one to stick with long enough to execute on.

@gw So true. Wish my favorite reliable people who care to pitch in and work at quality level would stop being cut.Kyndryl needs to quit cutting mostly by headcount cost and org chart placement and consider skills, willingness/ability to contribute, and smarts to do valuable work of any kind w/out constant direction. It doesn’t help to keep some headcount in lower cost locations if they don’t do much and all the work doers are gone. Who will be left to get the note takers and task list box checkers to think through their to do list and pick out the work that matters?

@b0 My last day is the 29th. They absolutely are laying people off. In fact, my whole team was cut. Two people got to stay behind to guide the ship into the abyss for the rest of this year because some of the client executives had a conniption when they got the news but anyone else had to take work elsewhere.

@kr Is there a way to volunteer? I am aware this was possible in IBM even this year, however, never heard of such an option in Kyndryl.

probably a good idea to volunteer to be let go…. sooner or later this company will be bought or merged… better to be among the first off a sinking ship

Don’t give up yet. Rumor is another wave is coming in August for September exit. Just make sure you’re really good at your job, that should do the trick.

@b9 The $200m restructuring budget doesn't necessarily have to be a fake, but is rather just an accounting practice – a new accrued liability line item, where the cash flow itself will be hit gradually as the rolling layoffs are carried out through Q2-Q4/FY27. More painful over time for the folks though

@b0 you are correct, this company is based on nepotism and inhumane behaviour. I wouldn't be surprised if the $200m budget on restructurisation is completely fake.

At this point I don't care if I'm on the list or not. I just want to know SOMETHING so I can make moves accordingly. Announcing you're going to have major "workforce rebalancing" and then not doing anything for two months while your employees are in the dark over their own fate is inhumane.

Let them lay you off, maybe you will be benched, then you get severance and unemployment. You could always volunteer to be on the list for the next layoff and save a coworker :)

the lack of leadership and direction is unbelievable. Set a clear, market-based direction, communicate the vision and strategies and hold people accountable....we're not doing any of these well.
