I'm so stressed about layoffs that I can't focus. As a result, I'm worried I'll end up getting cut because my performance is slipping. It's kind of funny in a terrible way.

@ra Very astute observation. I would add people from Pakistan, too - every time I meet one (I live primarily outside of the US) or a student in the US, they immediately ask me how they can get a visa to work in the US. I don't understand why they don't want to take their education and skills home - and improve their home country and the lives of their countrymen but no, they all want to move to the US.

HR is confused why you are so worried since they feel safe while leading development team.
Is this after a 7th reorg for the last 4 years? SAP is hemorrhaging money into AI models and data centers that it is sad that they have to resort to attrition and 2% annual headcount reductions. And the new AI talent hires are regretting joining because they could be landing fully remote jobs with the likes of NVIDIA and still be paid a 20% premium to SAP salaries and have full job security.
Many colleagues don't feel confident because of the swathe of cost cuts and budget reductions. Product, Support and Engineering teams are being decimated because the CEO keeps threatening to automate their coding and debugging work. You can't ship products reliably and confidently when job security is 0.
