Verizon may be considering options to get out of its remaining 20 year lease with Mesirow Reality (signed in 2017) for their 1 Verizon Way, Basking Ridge Headquarters in light of the company's continuing struggles.
Given the complex has been terribly underutilized for several years beginning with the pandemic, and coupled with Verizon's push to drastically shed costs this appears to be a real possibility. The company could potentially consolidate its office space to existing more economical facilities across the country with today's virtual workplace technologies, especially if it's forecasting a lower number of employees on the payroll in future years.
Back in the day, mighty AT&T (the 'real' AT&T, not today's Southwestern Bell 'knockoff' version) found itself similarly hamstrung by expensive real estate as it went through round after round of layoffs, eventually shedding the renowned Basking Ridge corporate complex it built and first opened back in 1975.
