Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon Basking Ridge HQ Under Consideration?

Verizon may be considering options to get out of its remaining 20 year lease with Mesirow Reality (signed in 2017) for their 1 Verizon Way, Basking Ridge Headquarters in light of the company's continuing struggles.

Given the complex has been terribly underutilized for several years beginning with the pandemic, and coupled with Verizon's push to drastically shed costs this appears to be a real possibility. The company could potentially consolidate its office space to existing more economical facilities across the country with today's virtual workplace technologies, especially if it's forecasting a lower number of employees on the payroll in future years.

Back in the day, mighty AT&T (the 'real' AT&T, not today's Southwestern Bell 'knockoff' version) found itself similarly hamstrung by expensive real estate as it went through round after round of layoffs, eventually shedding the renowned Basking Ridge corporate complex it built and first opened back in 1975.

The problem is nobody in the world wants the building. They are trapped in the long term lease. Same situation as every other company that moved to WFH in 2020.

None of this is suprising......VZ has buildings all over the place that are either completely shut down and empty or have very low utilization. I was just at the Temple Terrace location in Florida for a meeting and I would be surprised if there were 50 other people in the location besides us. It was my first time there, and its a big campus and building. While there, someone mentioned that they still have call center buildings completely empty, and that the Alpharetta campus is completley shut down. I am sure they have a master plan in place, and these reductions will ultimetly save our jobs.

Rumors about moving to Irving for a long time. V bought a lot of land all around the Irving office they aren't using. Tax and expenses alone would save tens of millions a quarter. They also just spent millions refurbishing Irving with everything from a theater to art gallery. It has more space than they know what to do with.

Continuing struggles... lol what struggles? The only struggle is the share price which is based nowhere in reality. Verizon isn't a growth company, it shouldn't be thought of as such. Tmobile is gaining subs bit it is costing them a fortune. And the subs they gain have negative roi.

Move Verizon Headquarters to Dallas, colocate in Whitacre Tower with at&t. I'm all about saving money. I believe Stankey and Hans get along fine.

guys are in running new wires in the ceilings in BR last couple of months. They added facial recognition cameras in the parking lot elevators.
If they turned off the lights instead of leaving them on all the time, they'd save a bunch. Still some talk about coming in more often (I'm doing 6 days a month) but nothing concrete

1luYiFmo<<. They will say that’s their culture. I hope they move to Texas. Take all the H1b from NJ to there. Edison NJ will have a housing bo-m with all the real estate avail when they all get out of dodge.

I hope they move it to Irving I would love to see Hans reaction when in the background of Up to speed there’s a H1B man aggressively pulling an H1B woman by the arm. I wonder if they continue to turn a blind eye to this and threaten you if you say anything.

Please, stay in NJ. All of the government workers there deserve need jobs that are impossible to get fired from, and then decades of taxpayer funded retirement while they flee to a southern, low tax state.
They are extraordinary people, delivering extraordinary results for us all. We need to take complete care of them while those of us in the private sector live through recssions, job loss and bear the brunt of corporate blunders.
We in the private sector need to work until age 75 or until we physically can't anymore but the public sector people should never, ever have to deal with that type of stress.
Don't ever leave Jersey, for this reason alone.

I remember Stamford Forum too, and Bill Barr's note about how we were moving to 'the dark side' on our way to the temporary 'World HQ' in Irving, then to 1095 and BR.

As one of the 'lucky' peeps that actually got a peek at the analysis that resulted in the formerly empty AT&T 'pagoda' - which actually did not present the lowest AT-NPV.

We moved to BR because when Ivan was splicing in the sewers of NYC the CEO of AT&T was luxuriating in his executive suite in BR. So the move to BR was really an oedipal thing for a former executive chief. Now it no longer makes sense.

The smartest move would be VA but there is not enough building space and the TX space is already hobbled by some serious bad financing. Besides - they have Carerra Marble on the walls in Irving and 2 gyms.

So yall survivors need to get the hitch out of yer get alongs and git yerselves down to Texas. Yipee yi ya ki yo!

The people in BR don't do much of anything anyway. I'm reminded of a part in the book 1984 where they proudly announces that chocolate rations will be increased from 3.2% to 3.3%. A bunch of people making and comparing Excel charts while I can't get the most basic stuff I NEED to do my job.

Irving ends up being a temporary hub until the department moves or closes, usually happens within 2-3 years. Moving to Irving is just sitting on death row.

They do have auditoriums, they just choose not to do them there because the U2S are always done in the 2nd floor lobby area

Why don't they have an auditorium for town halls / all-hands? Why are they done in the lobby of the building? I don't get that.

“Everyone has to move to Irving”. LOL that is how I ended up in Irving on the first place with one stamford forum closing. Then to 1095 and then that was “closing” so off to Irving. Glad that I didn’t get forced to BR though.

Link to article? And doubt it. If they do, it will be to move to the huge development underway in Irving with the railway connecting to the airport two stops away and mixed use with townhomes by the office space.
