Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Is this really why there are layoffs?

Cesar just announced the President Club. Roughly 150 people going to Four Seasons in Sydney. What's something like that gotta cost? How many FTEs could it have saved?

@12a I’ve been at high tech companies where if you hit 100% you made sales club. They were huge clubs and included a larger % of SE’s also. As an FYI, NetApp was that way also years ago before things changed. Perhaps it’s the economics across the industry.

@nb club is not a way to retain top performers. It's just a perk. No sales rep goes I made a boatload of cash selling and I was going to leave but man I got this 3 days of forced fun in Aruba. As a rep I love the idea of club but every time I've gone it's just been so over programmed. I've found NetApp to be slightly above average in the percent it sends. I've worked at other companies where club was just a plastic trophy and $250.
The small base pay risk reward story for sales is just spin. Sales reps have unlimited upside and their small base is often higher than most other jobs. You can check job postings to see pay. Sales jobs are typically a 60/40 split tech sales 70/30. I took a product manger to tech sales to sales path. The only job that stunk was SE they're the ones really at risk. When I switched from SE to Rep for my accounts my base was more then I made as an SE. The sales culture at NetApp is the easiest and most lucrative I've ever been in. Now sales requires a set of skills most people aren't comfortable with but it's not hard at all.

@h1 this is my understanding as well. Typically 3 year+ contracts to use facilities.

This is standard practice to retain high performers and most companies send a much higher % of their sales teams to sales club. Hit 100% and make club, but not at NetApp where it is a very select group. Also remember that sales reps only have a base salary guaranteed and their overall income is higher risk (with an opportunity for higher rewards) based on sales made/commission. And they do not participate in the ICP bonus program.

@gx I used to work in event management. Presidents club gets negotiated years in advance to save money. Some companies even booked 10 years out for better prices. Like, if I book 4 years at your chain in various locations I get a discount. I have no idea how long this one was booked but the standard is anywhere from 3-7 years in the future.

@a8 They book 5-7 YEARS out? I have trouble believing that.

thats the Julius Ceasar.....money well spent. sounded NetApp is getting more and more corruption. I remembered my director asked me to buy 14" laptop instead of 16" to save $250 which i need to write program daily. IMAGINE THAT? how they spent the money or layoff employees for that. Super corrupted top management. DON'T PARTICIPATE in the nonsense Thrive Reward. Its called Thrive "Re--rded". Don't waste time....i didn't participate for almost 5 years....i just ignore them.

Those things are booked years in advance and all companies budget for it as part of sales compensation. Cr-p optics but seriously, companies book those 5-7 years out.
