Just starting a new thread - tons of rumors - ignore most of them, look for credible and well supported bits and pieces

There is definitely disparities with the dates communicated. Is it 11/2 or 11/16? Is it the same for wireless and landline?

"11/16 Confirmed" ...just like 11/2 was confirmed? When we get closer to the 16th, will it be time to "confirm" 11/30 too?

The VP layoffs and reshuffling is a great strategy because the 10-20% is across the board so EDs, directors and managers only know about what's under and not about themselves. 11/16 is confirmed.

Was told that no retail sales or management are affected by the layoff. Mostly going to be ops, customer care, and finance folks in this round. Also was told that non union retirement offers are going to be made to people who have been with the company for 15+ years. They want to make this a younger company by getting rid of the folks that have been around a long time

Previous post person has it figured out AND has only been with VZ for four years. Good luck in your new job.

10-20% with notification on 11/16 is accurate as others have posted. We have been officially notified.

An executive level friend said that Verizon is considering offering voluntary packages to non-Union employees this year...initially.

So, basically, they'd be able to cherry-pick who they want gone (those making the most/doing the least) from those who volunteered. Everyone I know that has 15+ years on the wireless side wants O U T.

From a PR standpoint, it would appear to be a more "fair" way to go about this.

That said, they're always going to use these layoffs to "weed out" the slackers/undesireables/troublemakers that they otherwise haven't been able to get rid of...and they'll have zero recourse because it was a layoff.

Those will be lumped in with the "volunteers."

Of course, VZ will say "We didn't get quite the number of volunteers we needed to make our initial headcount reduction minimums, so accordingly, there may need to be (WILL be) additional cuts."

Myself, I'm tired of this. Been here only 4 years and have seen 5+ rounds of layoffs, including the complete gutting of our wireless customer service folks.

I'm waiting on my offer letter from my new employer and will be gone by mid-November.

I need a sustainable career and the old dudes at the top have cataracts over their corporate "vision."

Time to go.

Looking forward to 11/2 to see what happens. Fun to be on the outside looking in to a worn out old style management buddy system run company. I bet the CYA emails are really flying.

Hearing from BR that this RIF will affect director level. Some of the sub territories have been chronically underperforming

The real shame is that for the 4 billion spent for Yahoo, they could have retired the top 10,000 or so senior, protected employees. Using that 4 billion to make an offer of 4 or 5 years of pay and a lump sum and the company could have decimated the 'protected' senior employee ranks.

The information on this board of layoffs of 10-20% and 11/16 is comsistent with a lot of sources. And consistent with the changing of many VPs and then sh--s will flow downhill on 11/16.

@2juu - you are correct. I have yet to see "Verizon" on any state's WARN notices site.

All I know is the scum bag leadership finds every way possible to hide Verizon layoffs. That includes finding every loophole available to stay off of state WARN notices.

This company is as dishonest to it's own employees as it is to it's customers.

Just a reminder, this board has a history of reporting on"confirmed" layoffs that fail to happen. Everyone should be keeping their skills and resumes up to date just in case, but that's true every month of the year.

Just because you didn't hear about layoffs doesn't mean they didn't happen. I am aware of RIFs that were scheduled for Aug and then some people I know were impacted in a RIF in the last month. Small RIFs are happening all over the place in addition to the big ones that are running through the finance ranks a wave at a time.

Call centers closing are Mankato, Alpharetta, Chandler and Murfreesboro. Field Ops will be weeded and center ops will lose 2 analysts and Ops SM will finally go away.

You're welcome.

I’ve heard 10% cuts from 2 Sr Mgrs in Network and that they need to let their directors know who the poor performers are by Friday. No notice on when the RIF will happen though.

One manager is in Ops one is NNO.

I think Network Ops is the elite of Verizon and WAY beyond what the competition has. These guys are prior military, some from the AirTouch days, some from the Metro Mobile days (remember before NYNEX mobile?), and even from paging backgrounds. Common tools to get the job done are snowshoes, quads, backpacks, 4x4's with the best tires Fleet will let us have, and sometimes even helicopters, as well as laptops. They're out there after tornados, Nor'Easters, terrorist attacks (911/NYC?), etc., etc. So when one of us gets up there in years to retire, its not without some sort of honor and notoriety. I do thank my Lord and Savior every day for this opportunity to be productive and provide for my household. Its obvious that the stockholders are more important than the customers and the trench workers.

Something to ponder...do not tell them you plan on retiring. Let them terminate you. Take the severance package for the max of 35 weeks, if that is what they offer, then take unemployment for the maximum time your state will pay for. And then thank God you are out of that place.

Same as last year in Northeast Network Ops, they're asking for volunteers first that are getting ready to retire in the next few years. Also like last year, this will be followed by forced layoffs like everyone is mentioning above (before the holidays/end of financial year). Haven't heard percentages yet though. Gotta hand it to this forum, you guys give more information than from within organization. In these days of instant info, leadership still tries to keep us in the dark. Pathetic.

Why would they rif when they can just let people go for performance and not pay serverance.

Yeah, right. Verizon has never RIF'ed a sales person before, especially if they are not making quota.

Big layoffs around this time of year in 2015 and 2016 - no reason to think that this year will be any different.....Verizon loves to screw up the holidays for it's employees.
