Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

PSR 2020

Am I to assume that on or after 2020 this will be over and the company will be satisfied? And whats with the managers threatening to lay off more people when they assume everyone is laying down on them? How would that even get productivity up? Like it or not the less people the less productive you will be, right? You cant expect to run on all 8 cylinders with 7 spark plugs. Anyway good luck to all of you, and to those who have been let go, #thanksfortheovertime

Why give them 2 scoops when they pay you for one?

You can’t “retain highly motivated individuals” on the railroad. There’s a thing called a union and a seniority roster. Those that get furloughed are from the bottom of the roster and it works its way up. Or didn’t you notice? You also have more freedom in the military to make the non-swimmers lives miserable if they don’t perform. You’re limited on the railroad by a contract on what you can do. Or didn’t you notice? And as far as doing your job is the best way to save jobs... is your point being unproductive saves more? mo–n

"The BEST way to protect the most jobs is by doing your job."

Ha, I don't think so. This is the typical threat made to try and motivate employees to do more. The outcome would be: More Productivity. Sure. But why threaten valuable assets to improve numbers. Plus, if numbers go up to maximum, then ways would be studied to decrease the employee count. Once to a lower headcount, then more threats to those left to do even more. A never ending vicious cycle.

Why don't UP find ways to positively increase moral? Negative reinforcement only leads to what you read on here and in the locker rooms. Disgruntled employees!

I speak from experience. I was many years in the military. I led soldiers in peacetime and combat. I always retained highly motivated individuals that were proud to serve. Once going to the UP, my style was not a match. Why? Because I sacrificed my self to serve others. In this company? Those in authority sacrifice others to serve themselves. So sorry.

One of the ways they can assume you’re laying down(and they’d be right), for example is the number of Carmen per car handled vs. UP history or even more telling...industry standards. Geez. Wake the F up. And for those that hope to keep their job be very careful who you listen to. The BEST way to protect the most jobs is by doing your job. Don’t follow the id–ts lead.

That's the mentality this bunch operates with...
Fear and threats. Do this or go flip burgers.
