Thread regarding CVS layoffs

It's all about optics

With all these crazy hours cuts, it’s only a matter of time before something happens. Just what I’m not sure. Perhaps hours get cut so much, that there will be accidental layoffs. As in sorry we don’t have any hours for you this week, and people quit. If they quit, even due to lack of hours, then it’s not a lay-off, and corporate doesn’t look bad. Optics my friends, optics. Or, enough people quit, and a store has to close due to lack of personnel. Closing a store due to lack of available employees, is not a corporate store closing. Again optics my friends. Something will happen, just as long as it doesn’t make corporate look bad. Unless of course Judge Leon throws a monkey wrench into things which he just might...

@10vGGhwB-oxy makes an excellent point.

Look at Walmart... Massive layoffs and cutbacks in the pharmacy. Any word of this in the mainstream news media?? On the internet it spread, but mainstream news barely a word. Why? Because Walmart corporate did a VERY good job of keeping it quiet, to avoid bad press. Cvs is no different. Figure it out.

Speaking of optics...the optical dept has more people working in that dept, then the front store.

Just don’t stick your head in the sand and pretend nothing is happening. Look at Walmart... they’re gutting the pharmacy and now moving on to the front store to gut that too. If it can happen there, then it can happen here.

The question we should be asking: Will corporate know when to stop cutting?

Carepass? Don't you mean "cvs prime"? Lol...

What optics? It’s not about optics. It’s all about carepass. Those who enroll the most win the game. The company doesn’t care about anything else right now. Watch out. If you’re not getting enough enrollments you may as well head to the unemployment line!

I don’t think people realize how much authority Judge Leon actually has over the finalization of this merger.

You are correct, Judge Leon is NOT the reason for the current hours cuts. However, he has cost cvs big money, due to delaying the complete and total finalization of the merger. He ordered the companies to essentially stay separate, pending his review of the deal. The longer this continues the more money corporate spends keeping a "firewall" so to speak between Aetna and Cvs. And IF he rules against the deal, my opinion is, that there will be repercussions the stores will feel. Just what, I am not sure yet. Remember, the only reason the last 2 financial quarters were good, was due to combined earnings, cvs with Aetna. Prior to that cvs posted a loss. So if Leon says no deal and we lose Aetna revenue, figure it out...

Another dumb post where someone quotes something and creates a useless topic.

And no associating leon with hours cuts is id–tic. He could care less. His focus is the merger, not hours in the store. Not the same thing.
