Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

I Think They Got It Right

First off I’ll start by saying up until today my store was open and we were a fairly busy store. I’ll also disclose I’m a Gm for that strore.

I say all that to say I think Verizon Verizon got this right finally. As far as working I could care less if my store was opened or closed. I have taken steps to protect myself and my family so I was not worried about getting the virus. I would have been just fine. At the end of the day if I were to get sick the show could go on. If one of my managers gets sick again the show could go on. Lastly if one of my reps got sick that’s where the issues would start. If I run 4 reps a day and have a call out leaving me with 3 reps everything gets pushed back. Que waits become much longer, ris can suffer, so on and so forth. Now if I have an sm call out literally nothing changes other then having to push back my busy work, like inventory, returns, etc etc

Now while I can have an influence on processes and policies on my store, when it comes to sales it’s 90% a direct result of my reps. Yes we are there to team sell and help support, but for the most part it’s the reps hard work that go into the results.

So the fact that the reps can be off and ready to come back when we go full hours again is the perfect outcome for us. If we’re missing a few managers the show can go on. If we’re out a few good reps then results will suffer. So I applaud Verizon for giving those who fight for results literally everyday off during this time. We need them available for when this passes. Fresh minds, probably more appreciation for the company they work for, and hopefully ready to go. Working through this c-ap then going back to full hours results would have been terrible because no one wanted to work and be at risk(and rightfully so)

Do managers still have to work, yes. But for me I’m just as concerned about my health as my team and as a whole, this reduces the risk to my team ten fold.

Again this is my own opinion and I don’t expect everyone to agree. And I also was first to admit how terrible of a job Verizon did with handling this so I’m not “drinking the company kool-aid“. But they done good here.

@1cqf+147IaKaK it feels like you are passionate about all this and love working for Verizon, I can tell by your post. I still remember how much I loved working for Verizon for the first 2-3 years. And it's great that you feel this way because it gives you sense of accomplishment, pride and independence. I remember. But I think that most of the rest people here have been around for long enough to see the changes over the years and how most if not all were not in their favor. Of course business doesn't run to benefit employees, it runs to make money. And everyone understands that. But there is line between efficient and greedy. Verizon crossed that like and keeps pushing it. The way they handled this crisis has been a failure. And this time it's not just people's money and career, it's their wellbeing and lives and their loved ones' too.
On a side note I was just informed that New Jersey police is forcing all vz stores to close as they are not classified essential.

This site is nothing more than entitled lazy scared media inflicted people that live in a falsehood that life or your employer owe you something. The ones posting here are also former employees that left and thought the grass was greener and just want to make life difficult.
Verizon is paying all of you/us regardless if we worked 1 hour or 40. We all still have excellent benefits. Wtf is wrong with any of you. I guarantee you were exposed more flocking into the grocery stores and other stores to shop than working your shift in a sanitized clean building where the company has implemented measures to ensure you are safe. Not even touching phones.
Nobody is forcing you to stay. In fact please leave. You are so vocal on here why don’t you be the badass you think you are and quit and take yourself to another company. Call your friends and family that aren’t working and ask them if they are getting full pay. Scroll through your Facebook feed and compare your situation to your contacts. Ya thought so. I challenge you to be more appreciative.
Verizon is the best company and as an SS all
The way to where I am now I am thankful. Every job is going to have an irritation factor at times but I know I have a choice. I am in charge of my life. And every title has specific duties. For all of you bashing your managers on here - again do them a favor and leave. You aren’t owed anything.
Thank you Verizon
Thank you leadership

Again. Verizon is not living in the real world to continue to be open even manned by retail mgmt. To the front line employees last week when you worked did they buy your lunch Answer NO! It might be petty but that's the attitude every front line employees feel everyday in normal times. From mgmt and the corporate employees. They should have had an emergency plan at least 3 weeks ago.

This military style of requiring a manager to be in the building at all times is over the top.

Oh wow it's crazy how much discrepancy there is within Verizon on manager hours/staffing. Here all stores have 2 SMs now. So if 1 is off and the other calls out, GM has to work bell to bell, which includes coming in 1 hour before opening. Not allowed to leave the building at all under the threat of going on final warning instantly. Now add 1 of the managers going on vacation or training into equation. I tell you it s—s.

It wasn’t no damn 8 weeks lol

All Stores will be up and running Monday after Easter. They are just following the 15 day guideline. Don’t worry you all will be back to work soon enough.

People ain’t getting it. China forced their people into lock downs for 8 weeks. If you believe what they say they have had no community spread in Wuhan in 5 days

For my district, we’re in south central, we’re only working 1 day each. We aren’t seeing very many people each day. Hell I see more people at the grocery stores and gas stations then I see in my store. So the risk is at a minimum.

Tho we are doing strictly sales only. Any troubleshoots are going to tech, bill payments going to care. Not doing phone set ups or putting on screen protectors. It’s really not bad.

This just highlights what’s wrong with Verizon. If you want to promote above a– you become a pawn in political power play. You have to digest and spread company kool aid. I think Verizon has done some good, but the “yes man” attitude is the main problem.

Verizon is getting close to getting it right. In some areas they have stores less than 5 miles away both open. This needs to be looked at. Yes people may need something from a store in extremely urgent situations. Convenience should not be a concern.

Long term it is going to get crazy with different rules and laws around the US.

I do feel very bad for our management team. Verizon should change in-store pick up to curbside pick up.

I do think Verizon cares and made some big missteps.

“That's interesting. We can't even go get lunch on 1 manager days.“

Again must be district specific cause in mine the name of the game as a manager is come in late, take long lunches, and leave early cause a key holders got it. Also, for the stores that are closed on sundays only a single manager working Saturday. So in a 3 manager store they have most weekends off.

Food for thought.....The real reasoning behind the whole managers only working is because this company is so afraid of the union coming as a result of one of the reps getting peed off because they had to work during this epidemic. This is the real truth. Managers cant call in the union.

“Because per Verizon there can't be even a minute in a day when there is no manager in the building”

Must be your district cause in mine managers piece out leaving a “key holder” in charge all the time.

To OP There’s absolutely no steps you can take other than sheltering in place that can protect you, your family, your team or the customers you serve, from a pandemic like this. Shelter in place. If you’re exposed to the public, you and your family are exposed.

I know the OP came from a very very good place. We are being forced to potentially die for Verizon or expose others. It’s a rough situation to be in, say something and you risk your career.

Yeah except if a manager is sick, the other one or 2 at that location have to work a lot more hours and lose their days off. Because per Verizon there can't be even a minute in a day when there is no manager in the building.
Also, there is a much bigger picture here than reps, managers or Verizon. People need to flatten the damn curve of this virus spread or the consequences be so bad that it will not matter if you have the most refreshed and skilled reps - there won't be many people to buy phones.

Plus you can infect returning “sales reps” just making sure you get this.

My thoughts as well. I think this is the best decision Verizon has made concerning covid 19. Stores can run without the management team. Certain metrics would take a hit but that is about the extent of manager involvement. Sad to say but the majority of SM’s I have known in my Verizon career are just a body. They don’t really contribute much to the process.

The next few weeks will be crucial concerning the spread of the virus. Saving as many reps and their families as possible from getting sick will greatly increase Verizon’s ability to staff and keep stores operating.

Taking the hit of low productivity in these few weeks will greatly increase the chances of returning to normal in the next few months.
