100 VPs Promptly Laid off by Nike (July 2020)

According to a Sr. Director source, the number of Vice Presidents let go in the last two days is now estimated to be around one hundred!!

1/4 of all company VP's dispatched within two days.

Lots of North America and Category VP's eliminated.

Merchandising apparently is being blown up.

Anyone surprised?

This layoff, in addition to all of those since then are about as "transparent" as a bucket of muddy water. But if you look at it another way, it's VERY transparent. Women were especially targeted, and even more so if she were at the company for more than 15 years. They simply cut their highest wage base earners, period. And women, yet again got the shaft. When the MeToo moment ignited, only a handful of men were fired, and NOTHING else changed. Then when the BLM moment arrived on the heels of Covid19, the dam broke. I have seen some of the best LEADERS in the company fired without any reasonable cause, only to be replaced with quota-feeling people of color. Donahoe thinks the boxes have been checked, but I can tell you, NOTHING has changed, because it's the same bunch of white men making all of these decisions. The board has done nothing to change that, and neither has Mark Parker or Phil Knight. This is yet another example of how women always get the shaft, and this time...they took it yet again in the face of the BLM moment. Inclusion means for EVERYONE. Try again Nike, because if you keep it up, you'll never get it right so long as the same white guys of privilege are making the calls.

category and merchandising VPs are badly hit as I was informed.
Left last year when I felt never will reach an E band, and the S-Band in my department at that time doesn't even qualified for an L-band job.

@2eat: Those Nike listings on the WARN site all appear to be from old, previous layoffs. If you sort by date I don’t see any recent Nike filings.

Hopefully some Directors get cut in the fulfillment and distribution centers. The same work can be done by L and U bands. To many that contribute very little but talk a big game.

@1cyr, it is unbelievable that Nike had that many VPs to begin with. Wow!

@1sae+166RNbxm Your cynicism aside, the source was dead on. The confirmed VP body count stands just shy of 100. Sr. Directors and Directors to follow. Expect big numbers. Probably another 150 million of salaries/severence still to come. Enjoy your half-day Fridays y'all!

And since when does any Sr. Director disseminate accurate information?

100 VPs? That is about 75 short of what I have expected.

  • or as I like to call it, a good start! I just hope they dont end up where I work now. 90% of them are worthless and have terrible people skills.

Not really surprised, moving to men’s women’s kids will mean less VP category leaders, less Snr directors, but hopefully more L and U Bands to actually do the work
