Thread regarding Pioneer Natural Resources Co. layoffs

Layoffs - What HR & Managers/VPs Won't Tell you About the Package

If you want the layoff package, email or call HR. Although the process is considered involuntary, if you want out, let HR know.

Managers directors VPs won't tell you this because it's not allowed but if you want out, it will be very hard to convince your superior or HR a reason that the company should keep you. Several of your peers have already made the leap so if you're considering, do it before it's too late

I noticed this site erases some of the posts. We all know the good people at Pioneer but there is a current of those that are not! I know some of them got ousted last year but the bad ones that remain are protected by a system that does not apologize for hurting good people! They create toxic environments with no recourse. It’s a good think to get out! I look forward to the package!

I don’t think another round is likely unless prices dip below $40.

Question isn't when the next layoff is, but will there be a severance with it.

Just hope that there isn't another round of layoffs next year! Might be worth looking for that other job now or you may not make it out alive.

I don’t know about you all, but I need the job. These layoffs two years in a row are about to put me in the hospital.

OP is right. I sent a note in to HR and talked to my supervisor when package was announced. Looking at the G&G side and number of staff we have, i figured we'd get hit hard. I can't confirm whether I will be selected for the package or not but I am hopeful and I got a good feeling it will happen, based on some conversations. PXD is a good company but the industry is in shambles and I know there are better options for me out there.............

I have already secured a new job which will start after the layoff so one way or another I am out of this place. I took a $5,000 pay cut but there is room to grow! Don’t be afraid to look!

It is a c-ap shoot no right way and no wrong way, just your way. Right now there is no clear career path to follow, in the future Pioneer 2.0. There may be some general guidelines to ponder:
(1.) If you are over 55 you will probably get a package if you ask.
(2) If your position may be easily be replaced by a contractor probably not a bad idea to ask
(3.) If you are under 50 and are going to work 15-20 more years and 2.0 does not lay out a career for you, ask for the package, move on and don't look back, and finally
(4.) the relationship with you boss or your new 2.0 boss, if not good and not likely to get better request a package. I don't see Pioneer being punitive on those that ask as you may be saving someone else job. The only downside after asking and it is not granted and you stay you will probably be graded as PERFORMING in all future annual reviews, and this will ripple through to your options, bonus and future raises. I personally know several people that want the package they are north of 50 and ready to pack their tools and go home. I guess the one great unknown to me, if this RIF is not enough, will there be any gold in the pot for future RIFees if they occur. THIS MAY BE THE TIME

Don't get offended if you put your name in and don't get picked. Some people are actually important and can't be replaced with 6-weeks notice when there is no possibility of hiring a replacement with the same skill set or cross-training specialized knowledge. I know this happened last time to a few people and people thought they missed out. Well, here we are and the package is better this time. If you're a strong employee, but want out, and aren't picked, you can be somewhat reassured that the package next time (if/when) will be as good as this or better.

There were a fair number of people who asked for it that I knew of last time. None of them that I know of didn't get a package, but definitely wise to guage your management tree. Pick the right person or hr. And definitely don't sell it as I hate this place. Just explain the stress of multiple rounds of layoffs etc or if you want out of oil I think its fair to say you are tired of your fate being tied to a commodity you have no control over.

If your manager is a decent human being, they will find a way. If you have one of the many other terrible managers that have never done your job and can't relate or only care about their own career. Contact HR and explain the hardship the new role, or current role is creating. Chances are, you will get cut in the reorg process.

I told them in the last round. They did not fire me without a package. Say what you want about PXD, they are not coldblooded in that way in my experience.

OP is right. If you want out. Tell your supervisor. Email hr.

Bad advice. What’s to stop them from letting you go with nothing? Wait it out!!
