Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The decline - thanks to ExxonMobil’s “leaders”

https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2020-exxonmobil-coronavirus-oil-demand/

I retired after nearly 40 years. The Bloomberg article is right on target.

The fact is, when times are good (oil prices are high), the top execs take credit and take in obscene amounts of money. It’s nothing they did - the company lives and dies by oil prices.

Then when they make big-ticket decisions, they have been clueless. And who is suffering now for their incompetence? The workers.

The “leaders” will get their golden parachutes and sail off into the sunset. The poor working stiffs? No such luck.

I wasn’t PIPed this year, but I just feel like it’s coming next. I’m doing all I can to polish my resume and hope I can get into a good paying field after giving up 8 years to XOM.

Things started going sour the moment they decided that agile would work for all and management becoming angry when we failed and failed again. Even worse after they blatantly outsourced much of our team over seas and ignored that they (overseas employees) either didn’t care because they were using XOM to fluff their resume or because they saw it as the best job they could get where they can sit around do nothing and still get paid for it. The people we’re getting out of the BTC are not the greatest and brightest, they’re the cheapest money can buy and the effort they put in shows it. I don’t have the energy to put in any effort when I know I’ll get PIPed for disagreeing with the lies they try to feed us and can only hope that having this in my resume doesn’t hinder me from other opportunities. Not the only one in that boat, but no one will ever voice it now that our names have been forced into slido. May the gods old and new have mercy on us while the mad king burns us all.

@fxz you have to be “delusional” to survive in the current culture.. if they can smell that you are thinking.. you are up for the next NSI category.. naysayers ain’t welcomes.. that is how I had been surviving and hey I am excellent! And they cannot weeds us out!

I think it’s terrible how they did this to their employees.

Woods has an MBA so the difference between “Managers” and “Leaders” had to be covered in school at some point. One can only look around and think you must have PIP’d the leaders DW?

Well, the OP did put “leaders” in quotes ....

They call themselves leaders - a self-delusion that goes all the way down to middle management - but no one else thinks of them that way. I remember when our department’s Management Committee rebranded themselves as the “Leadership Team”. Once we had all stopped laughing, we just thought “Really? Which one of you is a leader?“

Don't ever call them leaders.
