Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Why do we talk so much about HSE?

I think we talk so much about HSE is a couple of reasons:

  1. VP is always changing his mind.
  2. VP issued a team to get feedback from the employees. Feedback was that several of the leader were really bad people. VP keeps the bad people and lays off the ones that gave the feedback.
  3. VP sets clear guidelines that show which jobs individuals need to complete before being promoted to leadership roles. Everyone that meets these standards are let go and he promotes a bunch of people that have not meet these clear guidelines he established.
  4. VP continues to use the Trump playbook. If you keep saying something over and over, people will eventually believe it no matter if it is a lie.

What are your thoughts on why the CVX workforce views HSE in such a negative light?

The attitude towards Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) on this thread provide great clarity. Thank you.

You want to know why? Myself and other colleagues have been out in the field busting our humps throughout the pandemic and the layoffs, not missing a beat.

Meanwhile, HSE and other office dwellers have been pondering the post-layoff meaning of life and deciding which bureaucratic processes are more important to dump on the field workforce first.

They recently boiled down our business objectives to 2 things: higher returns, lower carbon. If someone can’t figure out where they fit in such a simple model, the truth is they don’t.

Maybe the VP needs to be fired and in his place we have a spin-a-wheel decision board hung on the wall. When a decision is needed, the most senior employee in the group just gives the wheel a spin, and voila!

It is not part of the Chevron culture to attack another employee for a post. Try to understand why they are posting and work to address the issues they present. We are not a company that bullies but one that seeks understanding.

HSE is like IT. It is a necessary evil and drain on resources. Everyone hates it. Staff are mostly unqualified rejects from other functions. VP is a loser.

Because: Someone from HES is a bit bitter due to the circumstances?
