Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Epic HR Failure

I would like to hear people’s thoughts on this and what I see as a massive failure by HR and Drew.

They merge two companies and put us all together in this virtual world with no direction or help. They put two different cultures together with no guiding principles, at least none that we see on our team.

We are having meetings with our counterparts from each company and each side thinks their side is better. The only thing that matters is where your manager or director is from. If they are from Husky you are doing everything the way Husky did it. If they are from Cenovus you do it how Cenovus did it.

There is no facilitation by HR or anyone else to see how we are getting along or how the culture shift is working. You can’t throw two companies together and walk away and think you did your job.

I think what is happening is our management is trying to see how bad they can make it and maybe people will leave voluntarily. That’s the only logical explanation. They’re just going to wait and see who survives the first year or gives up.

They paid $380,000 to a marketing firm in Seattle who invented the name "Cenovus", 11 years ago...I saw the actual paid invoice. Imagine how much effort was exercised to create a name for this company, combining 2 Latin words... "Ce" - "This" and "Novus" - "New "
I do not know who was standing behind that marketing firm, he or she must have been in relation with their past president.

Another Fix:
The name Cenovus (pronounced se-NO-vus) derives its meaning from its root origins. Cen represents we don’t give two Cents for our employees. No, is from the english word "no" meaning no help for you from us leaders. Novus is from the Latin word for new, as in get used to your new hell. Together it means you’re screwed and we don’t care.

Here - fixed it for you
The name Cenovus (pronounced se-NO-vus) derives its meaning from its root origins. Cen represents the senile board of directors and how they really don't have a clue, they are "Cenile" in cenovus speak. . No, is from the english word "no" meaning no, we don't give no care about our employees. And "vus" represents the vusalene we give to all out employees when we have them over the barrel, makes it easier when we be givin it to em.

And we paid an crazy amount of money to a marketing firm to come up with this nonsense, that's what we are all about. We be one messed up company.

Racist troll should go away and stop posting here. I have never met anyone at CVE that was racist or homophobic or anything like that. The employees are all very nice and relaxed and accepting.

Just wait until those pompous Husky a–holes in the Technical Authority start telling you you must abide by SHELL DEP specifications. There is a good reason why the Husky Energy Inc. ship sunk.

This is another example of Cenovus throwing its employees under the bus. They put them under Husky management and just assume they will be treated with respect or fairly. How many of you have had to sit through presentations labeled with Husky all over them or had to listen to how things are done at Husky like they just bought Cenovus?

Cenovus has zero loyalty to its own employees. Throw them to the wolves (or in this case angry Huskies) and let them fend for themselves.

OMG this! I got into a screaming match online with a colleague from Husky who wanted to do something the wrong way. We're just not getting along.

I’ve heard a few stories of intimidation by the new husky managers / dictators brought over. Just ask safety folks.

I almost wish I was still there to watch this slow-mo train wreck in action. Sounds like cross between a dilbert and farside cartoon.

Okay wow. Apparently HR is rather sensitive about this one. Good post though. I don’t think it has to run like a well oiled machine but people are already frustrated when teams are basically being overrun by Husky Management and told to sit down and shut up.

Wow. 2 months in and you think things are going to be running like a well oiled machine? Clearly you don’t realize that this is a massive undertaking! “Guiding principles?” You mean you need words on a sheet to tell you to act like a grown up? “Each side thinks theirs is better” and “facilitation to see how we are getting along” = No need to go any further to see where the real problem lies. Wow

“You can’t throw two companies together...”.

Yes you can. Welcome to reality. There is no longer any restriction or judgement call on throwing people together; we are all equally qualified and important and all cultures and viewpoints are to be respected. We now merely extend this logic to corporations and governments. If you voice your concerns, you are a racist, bigoted, intolerant, mysonogistic homophobe.
