Employee Monitoring at Chevron

Curious what other employees know about employee monitoring levels at chevron?

I imagine that, if the company really wanted to, they could technically and legally monitor anything and everything that occurs on company-owned devices (Keys pushed, buttons clicked, emails, chats, phone calls, current locations, perhaps even live camera and microphone access). However, I am more curious about what is done in practice and on a regular basis. Not what occurs in one-off situations for emergencies or when a device is stolen or when an employee is suspected of wrongdoing or on a serious legal investigation.

What is level of monitoring is done on a regular basis by supervisors, managers, and HR? Perhaps, broad activity levels like time when an employee logged in or logged off for the day, mouse and keyboard activity levels, total hours logged in per day, etc...?

Per privacy laws, Chevron generally doesn’t Monitor usage unless there is an active on investigation of employee behavior.

Don't even think of accessing this site from a work computer.

@1iha, Yes, that is correct. You are being monitored right now. We have had no directive to ban this site from our network access so don't them a reason to.

Presumably Chevron is monitoring work computers that are spending a lot of time on this site and posting. Amiright? If they wanted to, Chevron could lock your work computer out of this site.

There’s at least one activity monitor program running in the background. Open your task manager, go to processes, and start googling what you find in there. The company won’t do anything unless there’s a problem or investigation. Do you recall the compliance reports on the home page? They’ll bring up your activity and use it against you for those situations. Plugging in a thumb drive will get your red-flagged immediately. Offloading lots of files to the cloud (Google drive) will get you yellow-flagged. Social media isn’t a problem unless you’re vpn’d. P-word got a lot of attention two years ago, so stay vigilant to avoid that too. Just get your work done and don’t be an id--t. You can use the computer liberally and not have problems unless you get attention in other ways.

One time I copied some files to a thumb drive to work on at home and I got my A$$ reamed. Ripped me a new one. You are correct about that. I won't try that one again!

Dude, they're nanobots. Get with the times.

Remember, Alex Jones may sound like a loon now, but give his predictions 10 years and come talk to us again.

They monitor everything. Only call up the data if ‘issues’ arise. Lots of urban myths out there, I’ve never known anyone called up on web usage, email, time logged in (I.e., hours worked), etc.

You're naive if you don't think they use keyloggers. They also have a root certificate installed on any device that is connected to Chevron. There are more than a Thousand eyes out there watching at any given time, sometimes under unfamiliar program names.

They also have access to read the chip implanted after getting a covid vaccine.

I’ve heard lately they have been keeping a closer eye on data that is moved on and off the company network. Like if you were to email company files to your home email, or download stuff to an external hard drive, you would probably be risking your seat.

I have no direct evidence either way, but in my direct experience, this is handled at the BU level or below.
In my specific BU it seems like most supervisors are more worried about accomplishing deliverables, and if you do so in a reasonable time, they wont audit your productivity. If you are however missing deliverables, they will monitor your time more closely (how, i dont know.)
Im sure its different in other BU’s or sub units.

I know they monitor web usage for inappropriate content, but not so much for time used. For instance i play youtube videos a lot for music playlists while i work and have never been reprimanded or discouraged from doing so. Even though to someone monitoring it could look like im not working.

I also dont believe they have key loggers as this would present a lot of ethical issues that the company likely doesnt feel is worth getting into.

In short, as long as we all stay productive and deliver results, i dont think Chevron is going to closely track time or usage, especially for salaried employees.
