Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Did everyone move out of the state?

I thought others would be celebrating getting to do a 3 day in the office schedule. Personally I am stoked to get to go back to WHQ and also stoked to not have to do it 5 days a week haha.

It was always clear that Nike was not going to switch to 100% remote. I am assuming most of you are either wildly ignorant, really despise what you had to do a mere 16 months ago, or actually moved out of the area completely.

Either of the three probably means you should start looking for other opportunities

All I care is if we can then use the gym? Don't miss the office at all (maybe occasionally free food), but definitely miss the gyms!

Wow, no humor here. The guy was saying that there is NO reason to work at Nike. They have nothing to offer but middle of the road pay and toxicity…. But that campus was amazingly cool. So why bother working there if it’s remote?

Quiet down, adults are talking. It’s painfully obvious that your function is a joke.

@4rew you sound like one of those people that thinks they are the hardest working person on the team...but angry because nobody notices and all those other team mates do is play soccer and they get promoted. Try working smarter not harder.

I will help you out with a google search
https://www.inc.com/john-rampton/work-smarter-not-harder-10-ways-to-be-more-effective-at-work.html

communicating well and often is not "bro" your way...it is about team work and you don't sound like a great team player.

No! No need to move out of Oregon, but did find a new fully remote position with an org outside of Oregon 😊. Bye bye, Nike

Nike employees worried they might have to fake a personality again.

@2piw: You wrote “The only reason to work at nike is for the campus life. Parties, meeting famous athletes, awesome gyms, playing soccer, what 5 bars! and a ton of food choices!”

In other words you think the only reasons to work at Nike are things that...have nothing to do with any actual “work”. Interesting confession on your part.

I’m glad you have time to play soccer, go to parties, and otherwise “bro” your way through the work day. However many of us don’t have that same luxury. We have massive amounts of actual work to do and trying to complete that work in the circus environment you just described is not at all easy. Which is exactly why we’d prefer to work from home where we can actually be productive when we’re not constantly surrounded by, well...people just like you.

I know you didn’t mean to serve as an ironic advertisement for why so many people want to continue working from home but I appreciate it all the same.

By the way it isn’t even remotely true that any other company will pay more than Nike. Maybe for your job that’s true but there are plenty of other roles at Nike where the pay is at or near top of market. If that surprises you then maybe you should entertain the idea that all the things you “know” just aren’t so.

"Back on campus" - remember, there's a ton of people who are NOT on campus in the Beaverton area, so stuffing us back into a Hillsboro corporate building where there aren't enough restrooms to handle the people - yeah, so much to look forward to - waiting in line to use the john.

I am stoked!
wow they took down my post? why because I called you people that stay working at nike but want to be remote stupid or lazy?

The only reason to work at nike is for the campus life. Parties, meeting famous athletes, awesome gyms, playing soccer, what 5 bars! and a ton of food choices!

Like I said any other company for the same work would pay you more. I am curious to know why you Remote work warriors want to stay at Nike if you don't get any of the perks?

Ge-z you sound fun. I believe they and OP (in a ruder way) were saying that if you have to work 9 hours a day that they prefer to do some of it in an environment outside of their own households that also pleasantly happens to be in quite a pleasant location compared to 99% of other office spaces.

3 days Hybrid in office is awesome and something no one would have thought could happen 1 year ago. My wife is excited and so am I (even though I left Nike in February…).

Nike also doesn’t run or thrive on pseudo-artists.

If your idea of “interacting with society” is being stuck in an office, you’ve just confirmed exactly what the other commenter was alluding to. Using work as an excuse for a social life is the most pathetic thing I’ve ever heard.

The majority of us don’t need to be on campus to perform our functions effectively, period. Don’t know why you’re so offended by people pointing out that fact. LT’s justification of “culture” is complete bu-----t. It’s a slap in the face, and an insult to our collective intelligence, to give such a nonsense excuse.

@ivy a lot of people enjoy their family and also interacting with society. Get your privileged elitism out of here and realize that Nike doesn’t run on, grow, produce, or thrive because of 100% WFH roles.

Your specific role/skills may be well suited for WFH, but you’re also an employee of The Nike machine and not a self-employed freelancer working out their home office.

You’re “stoked” to go back to a half operational campus and have to walk on egg shells and watch what you do or say to certain people...?

Good luck with that, champ

Yes, many people left the state. There are a large number of people that relocated to Oregon strictly for their job. Many of those people also hate the Portland area. I’m sure the past year’s events have only alienated those people further from the idea of settling down in Oregon.

You’re “stoked” to return to WHQ? That says way more about you than it does people who want to WFH permanently.

Is your life that empty that you look forward to spending time on campus? Are you trying to escape your wife/kids? Take a look in the mirror before you go projecting on others.

I usually ask that about Sr leadership when they disappear for weeks on end.
