Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Do you hope there will be increases in salary?

Attrition is good for employees. When the market is hot and staff are jumping ship for better jobs, salaries rise. If attrition gets up to 10% per year or so Chevron will boost salaries quite a bit or bring back the perto tech bonus. That was sweet!

With all due respect to the author of this post, I think this is a very wrong thinking. First, I think that attrition is something that those at the top finally have to start problematizing, and second, I believe there will be no increase in salary.

As another posted below, I really don't concern myself with salaries of people still employed at the place I was laid off from.

Please suggest another active anonymous forum where we can discuss the goings on at Chevron. I would happily use the service. Until then, youll have to just cry to the devs (who wont do anything to help you seeing as we are their bread and butter for ad revenue).
Unfortunately for you, the vast majority of posts on this site are not related to active layoffs. You realize this site would be dormant if they only allowed layoff discussion, right? Like you understand that would be a terrible business decision for the owners of this site?

@1rbi

They do not exist in a vacuum, there are alliances with other nations that contribute to instability.

China and North Korea? Neither are major oil producers.

Let's not rule out anything regard +/- $100 oil. Our times are increasingly volatile and we face a landscape of renewed geopolitical uncertainty. Both Russia and China are actively moving to increase their projection of power and influence and many are predicting additional land-grabs. The relationships with Iran and North Korea are now being handled/managed by a new team and it's an unknown of what that will result in.

Close to home, the Mediterranean is also now a factor.

Time will tell if the world views the current presidential administration as weak or strong, but for those of us at a certain age it's starting to look more like "Welcome back Carter".

Upper management at some point will need to pay attention to attrition. The oil industry has trouble recruiting younger people due to a variety of things including issues with the environment, lack of stability (frequent layoffs) and other things. The pay and benefits are good but other industries beat them. People are leaving due to the massive layoffs and the extremely low morale, extra work loads and bad transition we are going through. If they don't watch it they will lose their talent and won't be able to get people back.

@1cgm+1a: Why do you concern yourself at all with coming back to this board? As you said you've been laid off. Is there anything else you need to know here? It's not like you're about to be laid off again from Chevron. Be gone.

Seeing as I have been laid off and this is the layoff site? I really don't concern myself with salaries of people still employed at the place I was laid off from. Do you?

The OP is correct that historically competition has always driven salaries up in every country where we operate, not just in our industry but every industry. If energy stop contracting and starts expanding again to the point staff are in short supply, we can expect large salary bumps.

Agreed. Another disillusioned and disconnected poster I mean chevron employee. News flash...gone are the days of $100 oil and any significant salary hikes. Lucky if you have a job. continued thinking like this will lead to an inept workforce and be the downfall of this company.
