Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron has instituted a database of all vaccinated employees

No lie.

Non-vaccinated employees will be required to wear masks.

@6jax, You mean like your post which adds nothing to the conversation? Yes, I agree, THAT's very pathetic.

There is a saying going back several decades that Chevron has the same solution to every problem -

1) form a committee
2) collect data / take a survey
3) build a database

There normally is no step 4 because steps 1-3 take so long nobody cares anymore. Nobody can agree on any meaningful analysis of the data, so it sort of winds down and is lost. It is the initial response to form a committee/team that seems to make everyone satisfied that management is listening and taking action.

What's more pathetic than anything else about this board are the trolls who periodically punch in to say Hey is this The Layoff site or is it the Butthurt Employee site yaddah yaddah just to get upvotes and feel a sense of personal validation. Now THAT's pathetic!

@4qqc+, Maybe you should answer that yourself, I wouldn't know I still work here, that's how I know that the OP's post is fake news, and there is no alleged "Chevron database".

The 2nd and 3rd stories on CVX inside concern that the (1) O&G rebound might be a lot smaller than hoped and (2) XOM is in trouble because their shareholders don't like the direction the company is heading.

This is all obvious and has nothing to do with masks. CVX has a tight, fairly trim oily portfolio. I think we are well positioned even if we do shrink in the future. Will I be here? Maybe not, but someone will. Some company will have to supply ship, plane and military fuels. Oh and plastics.

Do people who still have jobs at Chevron troll the layoffs site all day? Do they just have no life or are they just useless in all respects so have nothing to do all day and do nothing. Don't answer that. I think I know the answer.

@4uqz+1aWDfMNq we can do this all day if you want.

So if you work at CVX, please let us know what the 2nd & 3rd stories under latest news on the Inside site have in common.

To work without a mask in the workplace:

1) You must be fully vaccinated with a qualifying vaccine.

Chevron will apply this guidance to its global workforce effective Monday, May 24th, 2021 except where superseded by applicable law.

To work without a mask in the workplace:

1) You must be fully vaccinated with a qualifying vaccine.
2) US employees must notify Chevron Health and Medical that they have been vaccinated.

  • Do this via the Employee Medical Record (EMR) portal prior to returning to the workplace.
  • Those without access to EMR should do this through their local Chevron medical clinic.

3) Business units will notify employees in jurisdictions that impose stricter mask policies.
4) Contractors should follow this guidance when at Chevron locations and should also follow any more restrictive policy mandated by their employer.

Everyone has the right to choose to wear a mask regardless of their vaccination status. Interference or disrespect directed toward any employee, contractor, or visitor who chooses to wear a mask is not appropriate. Please show care and concern for you colleagues.

In accordance with the Chevron way, we trust employees to safeguard themselves and others, by acting appropriately under this guidance and applicable law consistent with their personal vaccination status.

Agree all you want, Chevron employees can access the internet is all anyone has indicated. The OP: "Chevron has instituted a database of all vaccinated employees" is 100% false and fake news. It's false and intentionally misleading. On top of that Chevron has no such employee policy in place for this. Most people have no problems wearing or not wearing a mask and the majority of CVX employees are already vaccinated, particularly the older ones so there's literally nothing to see here.
Give it a rest.

I agree with you that we need to stand up to the machine, but these documents do exist in the cprtcovid19 SharePoint site under the resources library that is open to all Chevron users. Perform a document search on "COVID-19 supervisor guide" and alternatively "U.S. workforce vaccination and mask guidance" (They're PDFs)

They may not have been communicated, but they do exist, and are viewable to any user. Continuing to call this out as fake is a disservice to those impacted by it.

Wow, company hacks are out in force trying to suggest that this is fake news, but it's not.

@1tmx+1aWDfMNq

The EMR Supervisor Portal is the database. Here's a few key quotes from the May 20th document:

  • In the U.S., employees will be required to provide proof of vaccination with a qualifying vaccine before being able to unmask in the workplace. This is an optional action; vaccinated workers may choose to remain masked and not provide information about their vaccination status. Proof must be provided by uploading their vaccination record into Chevron's Electronic Medical Record (EMR) portal.

Contract workers should follow their company verification processes.

Supervisors are expected to know which of their U.S. workers are allowed to unmask.

  • - Supervisors will access the EMR Supervisor Portal to view the vaccination status of their direct reports. Status reports are accessible at any time and will be updated whenever there is a vaccination verification status change. It is suggested supervisors access the portal and run a report every couple of days at a minimum.

Big corporations are a lot like big governments. Lots of control and lots of regulation. They have to operate this way. You’ll get the vaccine or you’ll wear a mask, you’ll conform to the rules or you’ll leave. Simple.

Although it is generally a bad idea to judge a book by its cover, I perceive an inverse relationship between those that ware masks and income level. Soon I expect getting Covid with be associated by many with stupid... as unfair as that might be.

Simple decision point: any “science deniers” discovered on my team will be the first cut. No one has time for this nonsense. We have a job to do that impacts the bottom line.

I see there are some science deniers on here, with no idea what real science is, and who believe in knee-jerk responses to outlier data points and preliminary non-FDA approved vaccines. I did not know that there were any science deniers in the O&G community, but I suppose that there are.
"STEM superstars"????? Nice try. give it a rest.

@4ktk+1aWDfMNq: the science is very clear: there can be major long-term effects! Several percent die (an effect as long term as it gets) and another several percent become “long haulers” with bad effects lasting a year and counting, COVID is very bad and you really want to avoid getting it! Best bet for that is to get vaccinated... which is proving very effective with very few very rare side effects that last longer than a day or two. As for “non-believers” in science: I think we would all agree that in this increasingly high tech enterprise Chevron needs fewer non-believers and more STEM superstars. If vaccination proves to be an indication of future success in this industry then it is completely legal for Chevron to select this criteria when weeding out the dead wood in future.

“go and get your vaccine and you will have no problems with this” @3fzc? Surely it’s just your opinion, right? I’m not convinced, even by the so-called “science”. Know one really knows if there are long term side affects. It way too early for that.

A surprising no-brainer for a company that supposedly hires discerning, innovative, intelligent, work-to-an-answer people. We have ample evidence now that the Phizer and Moderna vaccines work superbly with no side-effects. J&J you can argue about the 0.0000001% chance of something going wrong. Don't be stupid, don't be "principled", just go and get your vaccine and you will have no problems with this.

@2jtg, oh I have a much better job with far better benefits since I took the generous severance package and signed on with another company. How are you miserable guys doing, still whining and crybabying about things you have no control over and are stuck with? looks like it. I'm happy to be with an employer who focuses less on diversity, useless meetings, and vaccine status and more on productivity, but that's just me. Just continue to keep me entertained, this stuff is priceless!
