HR Inaction call

This call embodied everything that is wrong in the HR function. Vague, non-answers to questions, over-moderating comments and questions, and presenters who clearly aren’t even onboard with the sunny narrative they are trying to sell. When asked about roles and responsibilities in the new model, one presenter said “the business does not care who does what. We just need to get it done” and then the next presenter later said “we think it’s important to define clear roles and responsibilities”

Very disappointed that comments and questions providing constructive feedback in a non-confrontational way were flat out removed as soon as they were submitted.

If HR senior leadership is surprised or confused as to why employee morale is so low and HR attrition continues to increase, they need to look no further than calls like this one.

HR Inaction. Perfect.

"They are all 2-4 PSGs too high compared to females." Utter rot. Chevron promotes women as poorly as they promote men.

Move the HR folks to IT and assign them to Digital Transformation where they can be relatively successful.

When all of the marketable and hard working 21-23s leave, all thats gonna be left are a bunch of lazy and undesirable 21-23s and clueless and incompetent (but diverse) 24-27s.

There are many more resignations coming. I know at least 8 psg 21-23 already out the door. Managers are co--y and have head buried in the sand. When your paid as a 26-28 you think Chevron is fair and amazing.

"Why would anyone leave Chevron"? Because I can get a triple promotion and work for a growing company.

The problem with the function is that they do not inspire. Most managers are not as talented as their teams. Brown nosing and politics rule the PDCs. How else could you explain 90% of the white men PSG 24 and above. They are all 2-4 PSGs too high compared to females. Heck, there are PSG 29+ white men hidden in the org reporting to women that are lower than them.

Yes. It exists in the technical functions. All functions. You are not alone. Sadly.

Would this level of ineptitude be tolerated in one of the technical functions?

I went upstairs to the HR offices and found an empty room with a Glory Ho-e. A sign hung above it that read self service. Is this HR’s sense of humor or what?

What did you expect? The meeting is called “HR In Action” on paper but when said aloud it is “HR Inaction” as the OP called it.
Definition of inaction: lack of action where some is expected or appropriate.
Whoever had the idea to name those calls that name is either a sly genius or a complete m-ron.

There is a second showing this evening!

I would say bring your popcorn but they will edit out any comments or queries that are meaningful or provocative. So, don’t bother unless you just want to hear middle-senior managers ramble on about how “things aren’t perfect but they are getting better!”

No, they really aren’t, but thanks!

Sorry I work for chevron. Do I need to bring my vaccine card to Mars or not? Let’s form a committee to discuss this in endless meetings to result in no decision made and I therefore will stay employed with the likes of you and continue the torment.

Elon Must definitely pays better and a trip to Mars means no one is going to send you reminders asking that you answer the company survey.

If you are no longer happy, then leave. There are other jobs outside of Chevron, IF you are qualified. Alternatively, you can go to Mars.

Lol. Hr psg 22s are leaving for more money than most petroleum engineers (psg 26/27). Its just about finding the proper fit.

If you all are so miserable, why stay? It’s a candidates market. There are literally tons of jobs posted daily. Oh wait, those are tech jobs that ya’ll clearly are not qualified to do!!!

Its like they hold those meetings so the decision makers can congratulate themselves on the awful mess they created and gaslight everyone else. “No you are the ones who have the problem. The new model is working fine!”

Another sad example of how impotent and useless Chevron is becoming. Time to look elsewhere. I cannot operate where 80% of my time is wasted on calls and meetings such as this that we have no control over.

There used to be something called the DCOM model, that was used to determine how well a person assigned work was setup to be successful

(D)irection - does the person assigned work understand what's being asked of them?
(C)ompetency - does the person have the knowledge / skills necessary to complete the work?
(O)pportunity - does the person have the time / availability needed to complete the work?
(M)otivation - is the person properly motivated to do what is necessary to complete the work?

If the answer is no to any of the above, that used to be viewed to be a failure on the part of the person or team assigning the work.

I suppose it shouldn't be surprising morale is where it is
