Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

what keeps you at at&t?

i see a lot of unhappy people on these threads and i wanted to see what keeps them at at&t... the job market is fairly robust right now and i'd imagine that each of us should be able to find a different job... what keeps you here?

I'm really staying right now as a matter of convenience. I am planning my next move and am psychologically ready to go. Just trying to get some things in order first. I do think it is a shame, because the legacy of ATT , through Bell Labs and Bell Telephone Labs, gave rise to so many incredible inventions, including the Unix operating system, C programming language, and the invention of the transistor. While I remain at ATT, I will endeavor to do my best within the boundaries that I set. I will not let the (unfortunately) toxic atmosphere cause me too much stress. That's not worth it. I've set a target date for departure which is within 18 months (max). If I get surplused, it will be a blessing. But while I'm here, I will try to do a good job. Best of luck, whatever your path may be.

I’m already full social security eligible, but why should I walk away from a very good easily earned paycheck! If T wants to pay me to sit on my behind most of the week while the actual work that does come is way too easy, then I’m not going anywhere! It’s called “easy livin!” That’s why I stay with T!

Re: "...Stankey is. He is preaching about pay increase only goes to those who are making an impact."

"Making an impact," ongoing double-talk from one who lays out plans for several years in the future that ultimately fail and do not support making the company successful. My first really negative experience with him was years ago when he used the term "fungible" when referring to the employees; "being of such nature as to be freely exchanged or replaced by another of like nature." He's the only one at this company that's fungible. I know some great cartoon characters that could easily be exchanged for him.

Almost 6 figures for doing little.
240 hrs of vacation.
Truck seat is comfy.
Any work that does come in takes 3 times longer because of their rules.
It’s a dream job.
They are 100% focused on social justice.
Perfect.

Over 60 with NO options to get the (stagnant) salary, (reduced) time off and benefits. Plus I'm convinced that we are getting lean for when Verizon buys us out. Then there will be better options for surplussed employees

I’m a systems tech. I have no college degree. I make over 100k with plenty of OT. Why would I leave ? I’m milking this for all it’s worth. I’m here for the paycheck. I go home every night. I have no work related stress because I simply do my job. I don’t let the job get in my head. I don’t take it home with me. I have job security and decent pay and benefits. I will milk this job for as long as I can. Why should I quit. I’ll wait till they lay me off. Pay me to leave.

To the typical job-hopping, never actually learning the business of the company graduate of recent it would not matter and nothing will keep them in any one place. Hires of today only intend to stay anywhere just long enough to look like they are stable but not long enough to actually be expected to have learned anything about their employers overall business. They do not intend on being anywhere long enough so that anything is actually expected of them more than just being new and learning. Spending your life hopping around being new everywhere just so nothing is required is no life for me but most people hired since 2000 seem to be fine with it. What keeps me here is not wanting to start over with one week of vacation and at bottom pay.

I stay because on the insider web news letter, we celebrate some random female who brings her "True Self" to work. She is a minority (Check), she is female (Check) and she is g-y (Check). I am craft and I don't care about any of that and neither do my co-workers. All we care about is if you can do your job, and if not, if you are willing to learn just like all of us did. WE DON"T CARE about someone's sexuality. I bring my "True Self" to work each day, but that is not worthy of celebration, the way it should be.
Oh, I wish John Stankey would take up sky diving, deep cave scuba diving or become a Christian Missonary in Ta----n held Afghanistan.

I stay for the pay (after 20+ years it’s very good, even though raises will be squat going forward). And the job is relatively easy. Schedule is flexible. No commute. Work / life balance is good in this role (in others previously it wasn’t).

I stay for the pay, but it’s embarrassing, even my wife knows what an id--t Stankey is. He is preaching about pay increase only goes to those who are making an impact. Meanwhile, there are many with idle hands. Whose fault is that really? Not the employees fault when the company has poor business and resource planning. Fire these incompetent managers and executives. They certainly not making an impact, demoralizing the work force with stupid lies.

I had a college finance professor say, '"buy atleast 10 shares of AT&T stock from every paycheck you ever get, you will live well off the dividend alone " I still buy atleast 10 shares, reinvested every dime of dividends into homes and apartments. I will stay with T as long as they will have me.

I am within a year of retiring and will wait for the next MVO and if none comes along leave. I reached MR75 which is worthless for the most part but now eligible for medicare - that hurdle has been crossed. The leaders are plain stupid and the latest note I see from "Connect Live" is bragging how they promote and hire based on skin color, s-x, se-ual preference - none of which should be a qualification for a job. Looking forward to leaving!!

I left on my own a year ago. I promise that it is the best decision you could make, as long as you do your homework on the new gig’a culture. I sought out a place that valued their people and landed at a wonderful company that encourages growth, encourages their people, provides opportunities for volunteering, paid time off, extra days added during covid for well-being, etc. it took me a while to realize that this is how it should have been all along, and that T literally doesn’t give a sh-t about their people. Long gone are the days of caring about tenure, you all need to care for yourselves. Take care everyone and please know that the grass is greener out there and you DO matter.

It's difficult to start over with another company. Employees of T should not have to. Stephenson and Stankey ruined a once great company. I don't understand why they have such contempt for rank and file. Stankey thinks he can disrespect employees without repercussions, but he sees himself as invincible, and could care less. I hope and pray he gets his up and commence, got to be in the top 5 of worst CEO's ever.

As someone who was involuntarily removed from T (but who is so incredibly grateful it happened), I can only speculate about others, but here's my experience.

I was a DTV acquiree, becoming a T employee by accident. From the very first day with T I as interested in leaving and did all of the things needed: brush up the resume, update LinkedIn etc. However, my job search was never robust, partly because my group - at least at first - was relatively safe. Remember, after the merger DTV was a shiny new toy and the T-h0les in the c-suite basically left us along.

As time went on it became clear that T was not a long-term destination, but still my job search was haphazard because T was paying me a substantial salary, I was being recognized by L3-5 managers, my evaluations were exemplary, and I was getting more and more responsibility.

Then last year I learned what so many others did. None of that mattered. My history, performance, dedication, knowledge, and experience were completely irrelevant. I was in a group dedicated to supporting DTV and I was cut. I considered moving into a different group within mobility, got a few interviews with managers, etc but I realized that would only be rearranging the deck chairs. I finally understood how horrible a place to work T was and what incredibly incompetent dooshbags Stink, McFresh, and the rest of the top were, so I withdrew my name from internal transfers and waited for my separation date.

I'm now well into my new position and the difference is nearly unbelievable. I'm no longer subject to Stink's pathetic attempt at trying to look strong. I no longer have pointless town halls every month. I no longer feel like an abused drone. My new place solicits my opinion, values my contributions, treats me with dignity and respect, and provides a work environment that encourages growth and participation. It's like leaving abusive parents for a nurturing home.

My guess is that current T employees may be so badly beaten down they actually don't recognize their actual worth or that they can flourish in a new job. To them all I can say is get out as soon as you can. T was never a good place but it's becoming a complete mess.

I stay because I love Stinky's "Connect Live" conferences. I register, join the "presentation", mute the sound, minimize, and take a nap. Charge my nap time!

No need to watch his drooling. If his lips are moving, they are lying, and if his lips are not moving then he is thinking of his next lie. Same goes for everyone above my 5th level. So many Town Hall to apply this methodology!

Then I nap through the recordings using the same procedure as many times as I can get away with!

Just like the Ratty and Stinky, I am trying to run them outta $

Enjoy your nap and profit!
