Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Evil Middle Managers

The past two weeks have been a shock to me. I have been working in this company for years but I have never ever seen the level of d-mbness, chaos and PURE evil behavior from managers around me.

My own manager is ghosting me, because I want to talk about the issues, and also solutions. But no one cares! I am trying to make this place better to my best capability, but they don’t care!

All they care about is who to talk to and how and who to keep in the loop and who to present my work, behind my back and take credit for it?! You losers, you know who are. One day god will bot be kind to you, maybe not at work, but you will pay somewhere for your deeds.

This is probably not surprising. The best part is with dozens of changes just in my management, everyone gets together and has meetings and have NO CLUE about anything! They just meet and talk trying to understand what others in the past have done, and then ask to make changes and ruin everything to show that they contributed, and then we clean up their mess! And they move onto another big role! Thats at least 75% of the company right now, cleaning someone else’s mess, often with no context, no training, no experience.

All the people in new manager supervisor positions are patheitc old timers who have no other option but to work here and not let things change.

THEY suppress change and thats why we suffer! I am in UIS but I have seen literally emotionless robot figure managers in all parts of the organisation. The last weeks I can count 10 instances at least where most managers in the meetings have no clue whats going on!

They are just playing catch up, occasional uncomfortable jokes to cover up their incompetence, insecure about their jobs just like everyone else but at YOUR expense they survive. The management in this company is extremely toxic. No matter what they tell you its not NORMAL!

All your manager is doing is taking credit for your work and hope to escape to another position for someone else to clean the mess. Senior managers who are smart, have started quitting, so all the new ones you get, will be some incompetent clingers to the company. Watch out, they will come at you with We Are ExxonMobil training! Yes indeed our company has spent millions in training these evil managers who have lied for 15-20 years in their careers and backstabbed and cheated their colleagues and employees, a training?! Like the BPR cr-p. That will change these people? No it just makes them scarier, for any change to happen these people need to be fired!

Employees are leaving because of them! And guess what they talk about in meetings? That atteition is normal, its just hyped up and only in IT. My manager literally told me to start looking for jobs as the company will implode soon or merger with someone else.

Just like algae( remember that?) now we have CCS and renewable diesel. Its a lie! These are just fake PR, the reality is we dont have any CCS expertise, the ones that hd it have quit, obviously.

Tel me if I am wrong.

Add to this drama the whole outsourcing deal. Hey it can work if you let people live in peace with normal salary. Everyone is on the edge, either underpaid and overworked, insecure about their job, threatened by cheaper labor across the globe, those guys are suffering there too at the hand of these salve masters. I bet they tell you they’ll bring the Houston culture there, hey tht’s what the British did around the globe, slavery disguised under the mask of ‘bringing civilisation’.

Add to it the fact that the shareholders have lost faith in the company too, look at the stock orice, we have been shrinking for 10 years straight.

Long rant but sure look around, all those new managers and supervisors and expats are highly unqualified, technically unskilled, just YES men and women and emotionally incompetent to handle people.

Tell me if I am wrong.

Look at your executives and tell me who inspires you? These people make millions they should atleast inspire their own employees! Sad part is they dont care, because in the end is everyone for themselves. All the Care and leadership BS is not taken seriously at the mangerial level at all.

Tell me if I am wrong.

Word from on high is cost cutting cost cutting. Any manager with a brain will simply toe that line and maintain a kinder and gentler status quo. We're years away from being fully engaged at the new level.

Recent engineer quit. Last year pipped, this year outstanding. When he left he told management “ I didn’t do a thing different”. Proof in the mix is he’s right, the system is jacked and management knows it!

Opposite issue in the gulf. Clueless young managers just as evil but same cr-p. Hearing rumors of a big shake up after turnaround. Hopefully this woman will be put in some dead head job as far from me as possible. If not I’m gone next year

Where is CSR in all this? A place filled with low intellect PhDs hiding everywhere to save their jobs. The only thing that is worse than researchers in Clinton, NJ is it’s management. Don’t even get us started on how fraudulent are the executives here.

@aem+1cRJ7pJZ this is literally the mindset of every single executive that’s still trying to climb the ladder. They’re all afraid of speaking up to do the right thing, because their assessments depend entirely on appeasing those above them. The higher up you go, the more pay (typically in the form of RSUs) you give up if you’re assessed in the lower buckets. It’s incredibly toxic, and these people are basically selling their souls for financial rewards. As I saw in another thread, they all seem miserable despite the tons of money they’re raking in.

Op you said it right. One of the reasons I quit in June was that my manager was a load of cr-p. No idea what was going on but will take credit for my work and then throw me under the bus for stuff that wasn’t working. He will ask me to make notes for him for his meetings lol so to sound like he knew what was going on and if I wasn’t available minutes leading up to his meeting to prepare him he’d use it against me months later and say i wasn’t working lol. So glad I quit as he always bullied me and told me I was incompetent to put me down and keep me where he wanted but I kept my head up and left EM all together. I reported his behavior but nothing got done

@aem+1cRJ7pJZ This is it. You nailed it. 👏 and hence smarter ones with real skills have bailed it or in the process of bailing.

UIS has been useless for years, along with EMRE Annandale, don’t worry a solution is coming.

'Managers' in the company are assured they have no value outside of the company.
This explains only some of their inhumane behavior.
The rest is explained by what got them into these 'management' positions - not very bright, but right octane blend of narcissism and sycophancy/toadness. Those two traits generally do go hand in hand.

Hopefully OP and others here recognize - you DO have value outside the company.
If you're not part of the EM 'managerial' mob.

I think part of the problem is that we ourselves don't want to accept openly that we have a toxic culture in the company. Most of us will discuss or vent it out among our close friends that we trust at work. This is how toxic culture can thrive because nobody is willing to speak up, because we are afraid that it will jeopardize our career.
