Short term disability vs. Forced rto

No judgment folks. I ve had covid and it is miserable even with the vaccine. I am a father of 5 kids too young to get vaccinated. I write reports and update spreadsheets for my job and have had no personal interaction for close to 20 years in the office.

I am honestly having a lot of anxiety and other mental health issues with this pandemic. I will be going to my doctor to request assistance in filing for short term disability rather than going into the office and catching covid again and infecting my kids (1st time I felt weird and left and stayed with family who had spare room).

Has anyone gone the short term disability route instead of forced RTO? Per reading up on it and speaking with others it would appear I would be eligible.

I have managed my role well here since the pandemic and am an overachiever at work via promotions and year-end reviews. I could continue doing my job from home, but I feel my mental health is getting worse by the day with BM forcing us back in during height of pandemic..

You’ll get approved. It’s 1 week suck time plus 8 weeks 100% before it cuts to 70%. Make sure all your ducks are in a row before you file since all access will be cut. Be aware- you will probably be judged so I wouldn’t divulge the nature of your medical condition.

@eiu+1cv5a4wp... Did someone in HR really say mental health is not being considered for an accommodation? That is concerning as mental health is a associate medical issue. Wow! I hope something was lost in translation here.

If you have a medical note I believe you will be approved.

@rcv+1cv5a4wp agree 100% , put your health first. RTO is a health risk no matter if vaccinated or not.if at least is after the pandemic I would not mind RTO but not during this high level of infections.

I was advised that the medical accomodation was only for immunocompromised workers.

@eiu+1cv5a4wp

What do you mean medical accomodations won't be allowed?

My doctor literally said I should not take the vaccine right now. I'm good with going into the office whenever they ask me to. You're saying the bank will say "no, get the vax, we know better than you and your doctor about your health"?

The issue is BAC has drawn a hard line in the sand. Medical accommodations will not be approved for but for immunocompromised people. Unvaccined kids and mental health are not factored into medical accommodations per HR. Short term disability appears like the best option...

Get your doctor to say you have to wfh regarding your vulnerability, rather than short termtime off. Short term screws with insurance premiums and other issues that are not expected.

Don't fill out your vaccination tool so you don't get a RTO date. Hopefully you didn't fill it out yet

@OP: Thank you for your honesty, "even with the vaccine" is probably the part that should make people think, but most are incapable of that. In the absence of treatment (cheap & effective dr-gs exist, but they have been discredited, and early treatment is key), we will be in this mess for the foreseeable future.
I encourage you to stick it to the man and put your health first, no matter what. The others who think the "vaccine" is the answer can continue to drink the cool aid and put themselves and their friends/families in danger.
