Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Why are you staying?

I totally get the multiple reasons why people want to leave, and are doing so in droves. Likely I’ll be doing that soon myself.

On the flip side, I’d like to hear from those people who are deciding to STAY.

Is it due to your age and/or lack of opportunity outside of Honeywell?? Honeywell’s pension benefit? Enjoyment of your particular job? Something else?

Thanks for sharing.

An intelligent director at Honeywell would have a) already left the company, or b) asked his/her team members and peers why they are still there. He/She wouldn't need to go fishing on TheLayoff.

My instinct would be to not answer this question. Even if OP is personally sincere in wanting to know how people feel on the topic this information probably will be collected by HR goons to be weaponized against employees. Toxic companies that continuously decimate their people to ensure that wall street gets what it wants naturally results in accelerated amounts of people jumping ship. These companies then have to counter that by using various techniques that make it difficult for you to leave, or sometimes they just need to know whats keeping you tied to the ground so they can take advantage of it:

  • - no 401k match until the end of the year?
  • - how long do you need to stay in order for your 401k to vest?
  • - How long do you need to stick around for other non-salary compensation to vest?
  • - Are you pinned down for two years because of the pay back terms for relocation?
  • - How bad do you need that health insurance?
  • - Do you consider this as the "only game in town"?
  • - Is your house paid off and so you are unwilling to move?
  • - Are you worried that your skills are not transferrable to other companies or industries?
  • Are you worried that making a switch would be risky given your age?

The list goes on and on. I personally would not surrender this information to a public forum. It will simply enable corporate to fine tune its ways in keeping you pinned down where you are. They hate it when people have the options and the flexibility to leave...

Dude - how is that paranoia counseling going?

Reminder: this is a forum. People ask questions.

OP, why are you asking and what are you planning on doing with the information you gather?

OP here. Did you not read my original post?

Please stay on topic and don’t take out your frustrations on people you don’t even know. You have no idea who I am. If you did, you’d know that I care more about my team than anyone else I know. You appear to be the type of person whom has issues with management in general, unfortunately.

Start a new thread if you can’t contribute anything meaningful.

@1xjg - Hey OP. Assuming you really are a director, are you just here for a good laugh and then go back to pushing people to the brink at work? Because that is what you are told to do and your hands are tied. Or do you actually care and could you possibly be planning some action to try to make things a little better? As an individual contributor, IMHO Managers, Sr Managers, Directors, Sr Directors do not seem to take action, just in survival mode like the rest. Communications only flow one direction, top to bottom, and talking up the chain is like talking to a wall. Talk to the hand, shut up and get back to work. People quit, retire, RIF, PIP and no one seems to care; all we hear is "You guys gotta figure out how to make it happen." Let me ask - Does pushing someone really hard actually help get something done, actually have some benefit?

ISC - Let's see how this works:

  • Lower metrics to show improvement
  • Supplier Terms 90 days that translates to 120 days
  • Inventory turn metric miss simply shift from OTD to OTP
  • HOS to off shore production
  • New hires in NA are H1B visas

Hum: Why am I staying?

  • I back bite
  • Blame other functions
  • Gain the trust of the new managers
  • Thrive in the dysfunction as I play the new arrivals by smiling and make sure I applaud at all hands meetings while I reassure the new manager "we are so glad your here" knowing they will be a RIF in 24 - 36 months.
  • I am a quantum computing, koolaid drinking, future shaper, known as a "lifer"

Honeywell is my second job. Spend most of time flipping houses. Honeywell provides health and solid income with very low work. 8 and done. 6am to 2pm.

I’m the OP. And no, not an HR troll. Am a 12-year employee whom has progressed through the ranks within ISC leadership, and currently at director level within manufacturing. Just looking for honest feedback from everyone. And if HR is reading this string…kewl. Doesn’t bother me a bit.

After 20+ years at Honeywell (in engineering), here’s what you should know:

  • no one cares a damn about you at Honeywell except for your peers and maybe your boss. Take charge of your own career
  • never become emotionally invested in the success or failure of your work - because the company will absolutely change funding or priorities on a whim and there’s nothing you can do about it
  • if your boss is a jerk, quickly find another position.
  • the leaders running Honeywell don’t know anything about what you do and don’t care. That’s a feature not a bug. Don’t get frustrated, just accept that and keep on (or move to a small business where the owner knows the employees)

Having said that, good engineers will be given increasingly interesting work. There are lots of really interesting projects and great people at Honeywell. You won’t make a fortune at Honeywell, but you’ll easily retire a millionaire if you max your 401k. That’s why I stay.

Stay safe everyone

I've decided to stick around so that I can get an early retirement from the class action lawsuit filed against HON over the jab mandates.

@1zps, that’s absolutely amazingly awesome! Finding a tight team you can trust is a rare thing!

Now, pick your team up and leave Hon to start your own gig. You don’t have to stay at Hon to stay together…

Age, paycheck and because I can WFH right now. After driving to work for 20 years WFH is much better / easier. I had one recent stint back in the office in July I think for a few weeks and actually hated it. The "new improved" cubicle s I think played a factor. Cramped little cube and very loud. We are sitting on top of each other.

Stay if you’re close to retirement?

I left because I was lied to. I interviewed for a Sr. position and was given a verbal you got the job 👍🏼. Then three weeks later the company rethinks their decision. C’mon man. How sketchy is that. Couple weeks later I’m at a new job and happier than ever

You'll never believe this but, I love my boss. I trust her, and our team is tight. There are 5 of us (all women) that have held strong for almost 10 years on the same team. Feel free to hate this post but, it works for us. Hear us roar.

I've learned from watching the ALT that I too, can milk the company and not give any value in return. I'll hang out until they have us come back in then I'll find a new job and just stop showing up to HON. They can fire me I guess, just give me a prepaid label to mail all this junk back to them.

Staying for now because I can earn well over 6 figures from home. But I am looking for sure, and will go when the right opportunity arrives.

I'm staying for now. Hiring is picking up across the nation. Being employed already is the best way to get another job. I can afford to be paitent and selective. I'll lay low and do my best until the time is right. When the does the tiger roar? After he makes the ki-l.
