Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

How exactly to Request a Package...?

Full-time and long-time telecommuter here. I'm about 75 miles away from my newly assigned location. No closer locations exist.

Still working remote "for now", but from the tone of my manager it's clear that he's under a lot of pressure to not have anyone as "remote".

So how exactly do I get the ball rolling for a Severance Package? I'd like to persue that after bonuses come out.

I want to avoid any situation with my manager where he's able to say something like "You don't want to work here anymore? Fine, you're fired." I think it would be better if he didn't even find out until after the wheels are already in motion.

the answer is on this thread. if you are told you have to go into an office 75 miles away, that is a material change and you can trigger severence. The policy though is that you have to go in if distance to nearest office under 40 miles. so have you really been assigned to that location? If so, that's a mistake and you can have it corrected. So if you're still working remote/allowed to work remote, until you are told you can't, it's not a material event.

Is it a "material event" when a person is still authorized to work 100% remote? Doesn't seem like it...

Those of you saying @OP can't request must have never read the handbook and benefits book. It's stated clear as day that a change in office location of over 40 miles is a material event that provides you the option to request salary continuation.

Get a clue, people.

@wma Your wrong. My neighbor is an attorney. Read all the fine print in your job description.

Just because you want a package does not mean they want to get rid of your role. You only get a package if you are laid off and that means they can't rehire for that position.

Not making accomodations after a job offer contract is handed over. Jobs are accepted based on terms, and one of those terms is where the employee has to work at. Not commuting is an additional added benefit.

If you don't see this as an added value, you're being obtuse.

Do not quit.

Hold your ground.

If they want to terminate you, let them do so (which they will not do).

Do not allow anyone to force you out.

Resultant commute is greater than 40 miles of the new location you can get laid off. I did it years ago with WF. They will give you a package. Clearly this seems to be by design as 75 miles is nuts.

Lol, and good luck proving that. What specifically is the employer doing to make this place intolerable? Not allowing you to WFH?

The 'feds' don't care if a company offshores their jobs. They have no say in who they lay off. The only thing they could intervene with would be illegal firings, and our workplace is being very cautious about going over that line.

And yes, when it comes down to it, they will lay off all of them if they have to...although I think you'll see them cut severance by a lot - company wide to show its not targeted - first, then do the layoffs.

Do not worry about it, and do not let them force you to quit.

This situation changes every 9 work days as you have seen.

Worst case scenario, let them terminate you (which they will not, by the way).

They want you to quit so that they do not have to spend any time or money doing their jobs. They are also petrified of the legal ramifications and of the further reputational risks.

There are literally tens of thousands of employees at WF who are in similar situations. WF is scratching its head because the “leaders” have no clue what to do.

They cannot and will not fire all of those people.

The FEDS are watching Wells Fargo and the employee numbers (domestic and foreign) EXTREMELY closely.

Do not quit.

You need to get in the mind of a CEO. Why pay you to leave when they can torment you into leaving voluntarily. That's where we are right now. Some will leave, some will stay, but that's the tactics.
