Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Deadwoodies - Why do you stay...?

As a proud member of the WFDS (Wells Fargo Deadwood Society), I'd like to ask my fellow Deadwoodies why they are staying at WF, and what it would take to nudge them out the door.

First, let's define a "Deadwoodie" as a current WF employee who is "Retirement Eligible". Age 55 plus 10 years of service, or the sum of your age plus years of service being equal or greater than 80.

So. Why are you still here...? What would it take to get you to leave...?

My answers: The job is easy, the money is good, and I've got nothing better to do. I'd leave today if they offered me a severance. Otherwise, I'll probably stick around for who knows how long...

Not far from retirement age. Still need more funds for retirement. I don't have that basket of skills that will do well elsewhere. I am also at a point where I really don't care to learn many more skills. Biding my time until they send me home or I leave when my desired fund level has been met.

Stop by now and then to see how my old teammates are faring.

OP seems to want WF to succeed and prosper.

OP seems to forget all the criming WF did and does.

WF should have been broken up and Stumpf and a lot of others taken on a nice long perp walk long ago.

Benefits are good, so are the benny's at my new job, which pays more, and crimes less.

Benefits are for retention, but it's the constant barrage of crimes that should make you want to work some place less crimey.

But hey, someone's gotta' do the work to pay for Stumpf's 110 million dollar golden parachute, and for the next skydiving criming exec's.

Man, the things some people cheer for.

Because our health insurance cost as an active employee is far better than the retiree cost and our pension was frozen below an amount that can provide a decent portion of anything that resembles a fair living wage for a retiree. There is no incentive to retire. Yes, we know why the Retirement Plan was frozen. This leaves us with the need to keep working to grow our 401K and brokerage accounts and focus on paying off our mortgages before we will have enough money to retire. But if you are in this demographic, you'd already know this is reality.

After decades in banking, experience is a mixed blessing. Schools don't teach what we've learned over the years about bank systems and processes. Decent job security within the banking industry. Then again, they're not really looking for that skillset at Google or Facebook. Might as well suffer with the velvet handcuffs a bit longer.

Not quite the age you specify, but eligible for LTD until SS on the day of my choosing (chronic, terminal but not immediately medical condition)

I stay because I can't imagine another company would hire me with my physical limitations.

I stay because as long as I can work from home and take my ongoing treatments I can be productive at least 8 hours a day, and it's therapeutic.

I stay because for all the unpleasantness, the benefits are damn good. The health insurance never says "no" to my doctors.

I stay because for the amount of work that's actually required of me is ridiculously small for what they pay me. Occasionally it's a very heavy workload, but for the most part I'm paid for what I CAN do, most necessarily what I actually do.

In short, as long as I can avoid the office politics bu-----t, it's a pretty gravy deal for those subject to age or disability discrimination. And if you don't think those are real, you're young and physically healthy.
