Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Senior Analyst.. I can't do this anymore

I started back earlier this year and cannot do this anymore.. plus it's no longer in my interest.. I've found a role that's in my interest and company.

If I put in my 2 weeks, could my manager decide to let me go earlier? or should I not put in the 2 weeks and just resign a week before?

A degree demonstrates that you are reasonably intelligent and together and serves as an invitation to the game. A career involves hard work and lots of risk taking. It’s not like a union job where you automatically get preference and pay regardless of ability. A finance degree should serve you well in banking but it’s on you to take the risks and pay your dues.

@1qrp+1eqlvivA - nobody’s dept gets bonuses or anything for the holidays. I’ve been here a long time and that’s how it’s always been

Disagree, even people that graduated in 2017-2019 and come in with a degree in Finance doesn't change anything. I have a degree in Finance.. and college graduates who aren't even graduated yet are coming in higher ranked than people who have been there for a few years with a Finance degree.

These are college graduates who aren't even graduated coming in and making $75-80k off the bat, the system is fu---d and they are just looking for anyone to do their work because everyone who is experienced is leaving

Probably time for you to earn a degree in business, preferably Finance.

My department is not eligible for any bonuses, no communication was brought to us about a bonus.

The people who has been year for years said the bonuses are only about like 1%.

We don't even get Christmas Eve off which is crazy, or even get many holidays.. and it's super stupid of HR to bring on people with no financial experience as a Specialist making $75-80k but have no idea what they are doing or even what a reconciliation is.

In the last 4 months, we've had people with 8+ years of experience to 20+ years of experience leave.. on our team and me leaving will impact us also. Promote people that have given value to the company over the course of the years.

I am also training people who are fresh college grads that are higher ranked than most people on my team and making way more with no finance experience, which doesn't make sense..

Do the right thing by not screwing your coworkers and put in the two weeks, or whatever makes the most sense. If you have a good manager that tries to take care of you, even more reason.

If you are bonus eligible and receive them, then don't leave too soon or you will lose it. They should get paid early in the year.. can't remember when.

@oea+1eqlvivA - no actually they wouldn’t. You have a two week in they didn’t fire. If they feel you aren’t an asset during that two weeks they allow you to go because you are wasted time and space . Nice try though

Thank you all,

Plan to leave in the next 2-3 weeks. The amount of hours I put in compared to what I am making just makes me not want to be here anymore.

They are hiring college graduates who are making $75-80k starting and a higher role with no prior financial experience

Yep, just give the 2 weeks. You get paid for it. If they decide to let you go earlier, you still get paid. I don’t think they will let you go early, but at that point your efforts won’t count anyway.

Put in your two week notice. Give the expected advance notification.
if they decide to let you go earlier, then it is in your favor.

If they let you go earlier you would qualify for unemployment.
