I would post an article on Flagscape that I'm afraid I don't have enough to retire, and ask for a Merrill advisor to help me get to the $4 million they say I need to retire.
I've got 3 kids...owned real estate since I was 20 and most of wealth freed up in last 2 years from selling 3 rental homes I acquired (lived in them while fixed up and then rented while upgrading area)..housing market is crazy..

Are you married or with kids with the 1million, that will help give you some ideas that will fit you.
Now we're talking partner, concentrate on green initiatives and climate change. Also, set up a few off-shore accounts and a non-profit organization for some 'charitable' work using buzz words like children, poverty, education...stuff like that.
Buy a modest homestead not far from a population center and live off the land. VERY EASY CHOICE!

Pffft...a million dollars. That's just gas money, food and rent for a few years (and that's assuming that things will not get worse).
One million dollars net?
- Become debt free with a little less than $300k of it.
- Invest $500k of it, so I have 'some' sort of estate to leave.
- Take a 6-month break from work. It isn't likely I'll see retirement age... That's minimum 10 years away and I may be gone within the next year or two. Or next week. Who knows. I just want to have a little fun, for a few months, just once in my life.
