Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Every single day as I wake up, I ask myself...

Though salary is paid every month, it's not just waste of time, but I'm well aware that it's also definitely ruining my mental health day by day.

Every single day as I wake up and throughout the day, I ask myself, "why am I here" and "why do I need to work with these young inexperienced childish immature Yes-Men and Yes-Women in 20's and 30's, joined Cisco as a new grad who don't say anything about their opinions or who don't utter a single word without even showing their faces via webcam at concalls, and who just send stupid "Recognition" emails each other so often just for normal mediocre tasks, like kids in kindergarten.

Actually, I want them (Layoff Dept. and my young (younger than I by over 10 years) stupid childish manager who's been at Cisco for 22 years without any experience outside the company but snobbishly bosses me around at all times, especially at one-on-one, who doesn't speak English at all) to start pushing me out in writing first, and then I'll decline anyway (though I want to leave asap). Thereafter, nego will start...

As I first joined the company, I thought the above is happening just to the Jxxxn office, but for the past one year, I've come to realize this is not unique to my office in Jxxxn, but a lot of professionally experienced people joined from other tech companies are feeling the same. I'm now aware that the situations are the same in all offices worldwide.

Not sure when it's ending...

I've worked at several US tech companies for the past decades, but never have I felt this way.

It's an interesting conversation to have with someone who you trust. Certainly not something that can be delved into very deep via this boards. In my opinion I think some of us come to this conclusion after a number of events that either happen to us or around us. They could take the form of:

  1. One or more close friends dying
  2. Relationship/family issues
  3. Feeling that you are comfortable with your finances
  4. Taking the time to self reflect

Some or all of these may be happening to you which puts you in a position of wondering why you are wasting 5 to 8 hours a day in front of a keyboard.

My suggestion is to start exploring your options for possible part time work, retirement, traveling, and so on. You might want to transition to 4 days a week at 10 hrs a day for example. Its pretty easy to do even if you don't work the full 10 hrs, you can still do the work for a week. Lots of choices but the key is to make some decisions that make you feel mentally strong.

"Though salary is paid every month" - Well, knowing the pay is biweekly makes one wonder how much else is true about the post....."

Here's another new comer who don't know anything about this company. Such a naïve kid. Such a poor inexperienced stupid kid. Frequency of salary payment varies depending on countries and regions. Monthly is the most common in APJC whereas other theaters have their own frequencies.

Anyway, frequency of salary payment doesn't matter in this post. What a pointless comment.

Just leave. Nothing is worth this kind of agony. The only person you have to blame is yourself. Have you lost the will to live? I didn't think so. Take steps to get out now.

What if you are on a legacy product obtaining outdated skills? And your psycopath of a manager won't allow you to transfer...

"I don't get it honestly. If your damn job is ruining your health, walk away! If you can't find anything else, spend your time acquiring new skills!" <-- Obviously you're a new comer. You know nothing about the company. New skills??? There is no new skill to acquire at this company.

Yeah it’s really disgustingly egregious. There is more time I devote to putting up protective measures and playing back office politics than I do anything else. Mental health issues are rampant throughout the company. A lot of the problem is that managers want to play back office gangster style politics, but then cite corporate policy as what they are enforcing. But then they forgot that they work at a liberal extremist company, not a conservative one. You can’t play back office MOB style and at the same time try to work within the framework or corporate. It’s one or the other, but you absolutely don’t get to boss me around MOB style, with no resistance, while pretending your are enforcing the corporate liberal ways. If you want to work within the corporate framework, you don’t get to intimidate and coerce me mob style….that simple

The most fascinating aspect of Cisco is how every org is rotten. I'd transfer in hopes of finding any semblance of strategic vision & competence. The inmates are running the asylum.

Security, Operations/IT, Customer Experience, Marketing... corruption and incompetence
