To the people who say, “just leave” that is a great idea but not so easy. It is difficult when you have children and aging parents to support. 12 hour plus days at Dell don’t leave much time or energy to job hunt. Should not be so flippant. Many cannot “just leave.”
I never said it'd be easy. But after changing careers for the same reason as some of OP's complaints, I really embraced the "choose your 'hard'" mentality. It's all hard, might as well pick one that gives you a better life for you and your family. Did I have to work extra and learn some things on my own to bring a skill set that Dell was looking for? Was that hard working 80+ hour weeks for period of time to get from A to B. Absolutely. But I could have stayed put and bitched about how hard my old career was, how many hours I was putting in, my kids and family to support. To OP's point, Dell isn't easy, but you CAN choose your hard. You're not stuck anywhere, but you can choose to stay where you're at.
Hope this helps, and is maybe a good foot in the a-s out the door and into a better life for you and yours.
