Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

They don't know when enough is enough

I believe that there are not many companies where I would be paid less for the amount of work I do.
When I hear how much those who left Dell are paid now, I get even more depressed about the fact that I'm still stuck here. I keep getting more and more work to do.

Do the managers even know when enough is enough or maybe they are trying to drive away as many people as possible in this way?

How are you making 450k at Dell? And you tripled your salary in just 5 years.? Are you an IC? Even in the Bay Area that sounds a bit ‘out there’.

I was at Dell 3 years and each year they found way to cut salaries and increase workload. Mgmt high fiveing on all hands about the increase in revenue. Tell dell is a joke. I left and am much happier.

Got a huge raise for leaving Dell despite new job being a small fraction of the workload. Dell made no attempt to compete or retain.

Zero regrets about leaving that sweatshop. Can’t pay my mortgage with LinkedIn high fives.

If you feel stuck because you’re too tired to look elsewhere, here’s a tip: stop putting in effort at Dell. It will get you exactly nowhere. You are burning yourself out for nothing.

To the people who say, “just leave” that is a great idea but not so easy. It is difficult when you have children and aging parents to support. 12 hour plus days at Dell don’t leave much time or energy to job hunt. Should not be so flippant. Many cannot “just leave.”

I never said it'd be easy. But after changing careers for the same reason as some of OP's complaints, I really embraced the "choose your 'hard'" mentality. It's all hard, might as well pick one that gives you a better life for you and your family. Did I have to work extra and learn some things on my own to bring a skill set that Dell was looking for? Was that hard working 80+ hour weeks for period of time to get from A to B. Absolutely. But I could have stayed put and bitched about how hard my old career was, how many hours I was putting in, my kids and family to support. To OP's point, Dell isn't easy, but you CAN choose your hard. You're not stuck anywhere, but you can choose to stay where you're at.

Hope this helps, and is maybe a good foot in the a-s out the door and into a better life for you and yours.

Bye Felicia.

But honestly, why are you stuck? That's within. Up your skill set and go find something that's better fitting for YOU.

Either that or get better at accepting mediocrity.

Hmmm, in 2015 my salary was 117. Now it's 305 at Dell. Salary swing quite a bit with time. So not really good compare.

Dell does ask a lot from its employees. So do all other tech places. AWS, Google, Oracle, to name a few.
