JDI Day Disappointment

Putting this out there - been to so many previous JDI days and this one was a complete and utter fizzle. Bring us together in one place. Do not make this day all across campus. It was terrible. So many teams putting everything out on the line and it wasn’t successful.

Next up tbe orange carpet was so insanely stupid. What the he-l happened to Nike?

Ridiculous day! No parking available and if/when you finally found a spot, there was absolutely no food or beverages to be found. The "Jordan BBQ" was a joke! 10,000 people in line for a single food table passing out one rib and a scoop of potato salad. People were hot and bothered and most left after 30 min in standstill traffic to buy their own food only to wait in line again. Same thing happened for the supposed happy hour. No food and ran out of beverages before most people could get a single drink. The event failed miserably in crowed and food/beverage management.

I never heard so much shizz talking at a company event. Anyone there could feel the desperate failings going on around them. I don’t imagine that was the type of pep rally ELT would have wanted in retrospect. Here be grateful we treat you like trash and try and slap stupid bows on it. Don’t they know people talk at this company?! It’s getting comical watching these “faces” of company leadership desperately fail at winning back the work ethic it so desperately needs to show up every day. Been around the KoolAid since 07’ and never imagined I’d be working at a place with such low morale and little interest in driving the business forward. If those millionaire bosses of ours don’t realize gen z ain’t gonna pull this cart forward soon, the swoosh and all its cache will get trampled by celebrities and employees who want to be one themselves. We used to party hard, work hard, and play hard, and it felt like a family. Now we show our true colors daily, just big money with no sole. Miss the days that cash pile was paying for all the frivolous and opulent off-sites and travel. Face it folks, the KoolAid runs dry.

Building on other posts, what is the average demograpic of a Drake or Travis Scott fan?

Most are single dudes in the 17 to 25 age range. And they don't care if their favorite artist is groping teens and flexing about cash, cars, g-ns, and ho-s. In fact, that group probably celebrates and is envious of that lifestyle.

So what is the average demograpic of a Nike employee at WHQ?

I'm guessing it's mid-to-late 30s, married with children, and with a high percentage being women.

If that's the case, who was JDI Day for? Employees? Or for Nike to use it as a marketing opportunity to their real audience, people under 30, mostly in the 18 to 25 range, who buy Nike's overpriced kicks and t-shirts?

Pair that with the disorganized mess during the day and you see where the real investment was. The money went towards st-----g the ego of endorsement athletes, vapid celebrities, and top executives. Not for celebrating the hard work of employees.

I was looking forward to JDI Day, but came away feeling like I never want to go to another Nike event. The current leadership team is just so out of touch with the rank and file, which makes me disappointed and feeling unappreciated.

line for a stupid thshirt? I mean oh ok, theres line for food, and then some folks trying to skip lines for getting a stupid tshirt! I mean give me a F break. Then, only to be asked "what size are you" ? Why? why couldnt they have just dumped clothes in a bucket or something, and passersby would have taken it if they wanted!! not like it was a supper cool tshirt as it is. Then when that line is over go over to the food line, only to see empty plates of meat, only potato salads remaining, no plasticware to eat with, total messs. And, the amount of walking to do only to be greeted with sweaty , grump folks standing in the sun in the smoke. Not good at all. disappointed.

Worked at my desk most of the day and went home early. From what I heard there were lots of people mad about standing in the sun all day with no water or food.

But hey, it’s some great PR for the company on the net and that’s all that counts. You were just invited because otherwise it would look so empty. Haven’t you figured out yet you are just a product yourself on that day. Smile and wave and don’t forget to post on your social media. And don’t be late on Monday!!

free water stations around campus, many commented they were dehydrated. Corp comma should have said you could bring your own water bottle for the day events as the no bags on the field was confusing.

JD makes enough $. A few crumbs for a hosted lunch would have gone a long way in showing basic human and employee appreciation. All day events starting a 8 am & ending at 10 pm with only food for dinner. Are we all intermittent fasting with dinner as our only meal and not fueling our bodies after participating in the sports events or walking 8 miles in the day around campus?

I networked as I’m ready to leave my current job and have informationals planned this month.

The daytime was a total disaster. Mo said, "Something around every corner." All I saw were grumpy people who ran a 10k and thrn couldn't find any food because the food booths didn't open until dinner time. If a person didn't get into other events, it was just endless roaming around an inactive campus with NOTHING. And the BBQ area was a mess. Who organized that space??? Total disaster and impossible yo even try one thing let alone more than one "to vote fir your favorite". Super disappointing.

Not everyone could stay until late night. Achool just started, kida are getting settled. So nothing for those who needed to be home for dinnertime.

Can we just move on from this idea entirely? Just take the gobs of money spent on these events and put them into salaries/bonuses.
I’d much rather spend money on a vacation with family than standing in a soccer field and getting yelled at by an angst rapper with multiple lawsuits.

For a company that is trying so hard to be politically correct and stay on the right side of women's issues, it seems weird to foster a relationship with an artist like Drake. Drake has been accused of grooming underage girls and having inappropriate relationships in the past. Here's a lovely video of him groping and kissing a 17 year old girl at one of his concerts, and he follows it up with some not great comments even after he learns her age:

It seems like Nike should have known when both featured artists tonight, Drake and Travis Scott, show up on a list for the d-mbest s-x lyrics in rap history:

https://www.complex.com/music/2017/01/worst-s-x-lyrics-in-rap-history/

In the end, I was almost expecting them to trot out Deshaun Watson for some wise words sbout relationships with women!

No wonder family members weren't welcome at this event.

I'm a long time employee also. I signed up for a couple events and wasn't chosen, but I decided to show up for the day anyway to have fun as a spectator. Like the previous poster said, it seemed like I was always in the wrong place for whatever cool thing was supposed to be going on. As a result, I felt really underwhelmed and disengaged, almost like I had crashed some stranger's event. I also called several coworkers and long time Nike friends and almost all of them had either left early or didn't come at all. I hate sounding ungrateful, but it really wasn't fun. As for the evening event, I guess I'm just getting too old for Nike because Drake, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Travis Scott weren't my cup of tea and I've already seen most of the athletes that were appearing, so I bailed out. As others have said, previous Nike events in the past were way better. Maybe we've just gotten too big, but this JDI day felt soulless.

It was not great. I miss the old activities. Too much focus on big names and an Oscars-style awards ceremony. If you weren't in an activity there was nothing to do and no mementos or takeaways. Yuck. I was always in the wrong place today when something fun was happening across campus.

What a colossal douche Drake is and only surpassed by Travis Scott…

This is really the BEST we can do? SMDH

But for the love of god, don’t approach any of these id--ts, or talk to them, or take their picture.

Good lord this company has changed.

100% agree. Instead of spreading everyone out, keep the event focused in one area.

Focus on heavy appetizers, beer/wine/soda, plus great swag for everyone (how that’s not obvious for an footwear/apparel company is mind boggling), and a great band(s).

Anyone remember the Blue Ribbon Carnival? Tim Hershey and company nailed it…

Curious to see what others have to say about their JDI experience. I didn't attend the campus festivities. Wasn't feeling it this year.
